Mays gets call

The Patriots filled their 53rd and final roster spot before Saturday's deadline, promoting rookie linebacker Corey Mays off the practice squad.

The move with Mays is likely tied into the status of linebacker Don Davis, who is questionable with a lower leg injury. If Davis can't play tonight against the Colts, the Patriots would be without one of their top special teams players. Mays would be a likely candidate to fill the void.

Mays, who attended Notre Dame, was originally signed by the Patriots as a rookie free agent on May 8. He was cut before the regular season began, then signed to the team's eight-man practice squad.

This was mentioned before in the 53rd man thread..a bit if a surprise..but a STer certainly was needed..so why not?? I think he has an outside shot some day of being a backup ILB..Good to have prospects inside and out..with Mays and Woods..really...He's smart and he may have the character needed for

If even one of Mays or Woods becomes something solid in a year or two, that would be really significant. We could use an infusion of young, talented LBs.
