The guy really is retired. Bucs are having a pretty good year. If Dillon would have signed, he could have played against the Colts this week.

Bucs contact Dillon's agent after injury to Cadillac

Corey Dillon resisted an overture from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to jump into their running back mix, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Monday.

Starter Carnell "Cadillac" Williams was lost for the season to a knee injury in the first quarter of their 20-7 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Steve Feldman, the agent for Dillon, confirmed that the Bucs contacted him before the game was finished. Feldman then asked Dillon if he was interested via a text message.

"No," is what Dillon replied in a text back to Feldman.

Dillon was released by the Patriots in the offseason, and the free agent running back basically said he was finished playing. He hasn't formally filed "retirement" papers with the league to get his accrued severance pay, but Feldman said there wasn't any urgency to that procedure.

"Corey's not hurting for money," Feldman said. "He's taken care of his money."

Even if Dillon did file papers with the league to obtain his severance pay, he would not be precluded from returning to the football field.

Heard this last night during the game. It suprised me a bit, Pittman and Graham have run well when in there and I think TB is one of the top 3 teams in the NFC this year with Garcia under center which I thought might intrigue Dillon.

His agent already said that Corey told him he would play for the Bears, so he's not "really" retired. He's just not going to troll the league for cash. He wants to either get into a good situation (one would argue the Bears are not, but the NFC is so weak...), or relax in Malibu and golf.
