Celtics trade Brown for Flagg, even throw in players & draft picks. Flagg is a can't miss project. I am tempted to trade Tatum. Tatum has not even reached his potential. But Flagg will become one of the all time greats.

No, it doesn’t make sense. We have our window to win championships right now, we don’t need to prematurely close it to develop a rookie instead.

It's a small window compared to the potential. Develop a rookie? Flagg will become ROY hands down, not even a consideration.

Flagg has great potential but will he ever reach Tatums level? I dont think so.
No he will not be one of the alltime greats. Thats ridiculous. He has holes that will be exposed in the NBA.
Of course, I believe he'll work his butt off to fix those holes and keep improving.
He will be a very good-great player but alltime great? I seriously don't see that.
Larry Bird was 5x better coming out of college than Flagg. Flagg won't come close to Bird.

It's too bad that in this era, Flagg is pretty much required to leave school after one year. Given the disappointing ending to his season, I think he'd be better off with another season at Duke, especially if he helps them win a championship.

Flagg for Tatum?

WTF are people thinking????

Apparently some on the board don't remember Larry as a rookie or in his 2nd year

How is he required? He has a choice.

Technically he does, but not really in this day and age.

When was the last time an NBA-caliber player stayed in school? I can't remember one in over 20 years.

It’s happened in football

True. But basketball has gone the other way. To be honest, given the hype he had, I'm surprised Flagg didn't skip college altogether.

Lets qualify that. It's all about financials which I think is your point.

If the player is getting a ton in NIL and is projected to be a mid/late 1st rounder then the financials might make them stick around. Alternatively they might think they can improve their draft stock by staying in school.

If the player is a sure-fire lottery pick then I agree the decision is an easier one but there are exceptions.

Edey from Purdue initially declared but stayed and went 9th. It happens.

Last year Risacher got $57m w/ $25m signing bonus as the #1 pick.

Flagg got close to $5m in NIL last year. He most likely will be the #1 pick.

To your point, the only way Flagg stays is a) really enjoys the college experience and is happy w/ $5m and b) doesn't want to go to the team with the #1 pick.

Actually, with the NIL money, there's less pressure to leave after one year.

NIL money should change the minds of those expecting to be picked lower in the 1st round, but the 1st pick in the draft gets ~$12.6 Million in year 1. That makes the NIL money less of a factor for the top pick.

He reclassified I believe so he skipped his senior season of HS. He’s still be only 18 when NBA season starts.

Its threads like this that force me to maintain that New England fans are some of the most insufferable of all sports fans.

Is anyone looking at the realities of where the Celtics are with the cap? They can't trade anyone with a significant salary without it being an almost exact dollar for dollar match. Flagg won't make anywhere near what Brown makes. They've gone well beyond having this kind of flexibility.

Huh? I don't get this... if they trade any of their high-salaried players for a draft pick, their cap number goes down not up. They could easily make that trade if they wanted to (not that I think they should).

Not when they are over the second apron. All that is taken away.

People here seem to forget that Flagg will still be EIGHTEEN when the regular season starts for the 25-26 season. Bird was 23, five years older, so of course he was a better rookie.

Now I have no idea what kind of pro Flagg will be. I think Tatum is a good comparison. That are about the same size and are wing players who can go to the basket, while being 3 pt. threats. The value of making a deal like that is that you a younger guy with great talent. The negative is that you have to go through the growing process again. Tatum is still only 26 with another 8-10 years of prime basketball ahead of him. He was very good as a 19 year old, but nothing compared to what he is now.

Now if you could get him by trading Brown and what seems to be his chronic knee injury, then I'd do it in a second.

They move Brown because of the cap concerns new ownership may have. If they do they'll take a major PR hit.

Note- Brown does not have a chronic knee issue. His current injury is new this year.
