Screw him and the horse he rode in on - the way he left us high and dry in New Orleans cannot be forgiven.
Perhaps if he kept his mind on football during football season maybe he activates Troy Brown in that SB.
There was plenty of time to gripe about who does the cooking and grocery shopping AFTER the season.
To not even return on the team bus & plane with his coaches & players, following that loss was classless and selfish.
There is no question he brought bledsoe & that young group of players and the franchise with new owner bob Kraft exactly what was needed to turn things around. In '93 & '94 he was great, '95 was even better as they actually got to the playoffs. But it all blew up in '96, just as they as he took them all the way to New Orleans and allowed the wheels to fall off prior to the season ending.
I wont forgive the way he went out.
I'm with sand on this one. Parcells was all about himself and never the people he worked for. I give him credit, he had a great system and some skills.
He would walk into a team like the Pats, who had been very bad for a couple of years, so they would have a good core or young talent and low expectations, so even a bad first year like 5-11 would look like an improvement, and anything better would look like a miracle. That's what he did with the Pats, Jets, and Miami.
I'm not saying he was a bad coach. Far from it. However his best skill was surrounding himself with good smart assistants and leaving them alone. After his Giants run for the most part Parcells was there for media relations, being the team prick, and the face of the franchise.
Also I credit Parcells for understanding that his style wasn't built for the long haul. He was a builder, not a maintainer. He understood how difficult it was to be a superbowl contender long term. So whenever he had some success, how would try an maximize it for his own personal gain.
Few people remember that after his first superbowl win, he tried very hard to leave the Giants, and after the 2nd one he finally did get his wish. He lasted 4 years with the Pats, 3 years with the Jets, just a couple with the Cowboys. Lets not forget that Parcells was NEVER good a "shopping for the groceries".
A lot of coaches like Parcells can build a down trodden franchise. But its a true HOF coach who can do what BB's done over the dozen years. No one's been able to do it as well during the salary cap era.
When I think of a HOF coach I look at guys like BB, Walsh and Brown Guys who did it with one team over a long period of time. When compare those guys with Parcells, I find him wanting. He was good at one thing, building bad teams into good ones....but that's it. A good coach, not a HOFer.
BTW- I pray to god that his lackies in the Boston media will stop nominating him for the Pats HOF. There are so many more deserving players who deserve that honor.
