Lonborg was damn good that WS. He might well have beaten Gibson once.
If memory serves, he became a dentist and practiced in Scituate. Pretty impressive post-baseball career....

not derailing.......but, earl wilson was my favorite pitcher back then because every now and then he'd hit a homerun and my friend did have the impossible dream album and we'd listen to that a lot until game 7.

**** O'Connell made a lot of good moves during his first couple of seasons as GM after replacing the incompetent Mike Higgins, but trading Wilson was one his very worst moves, if not The worst...Didn't get jack feckin squat for him either...It's not a stretch to claim that, if Wilson were still with the Sox for the '67 season, they win the WS.

Yeah like most of New England, my
Dad bought that Impossible Dream record soon as it was released. It was cool but man that song version was really corny.

Yeah it was kinda corny, but to a 7-year-old kid it felt kinda powerful at the same time, and it also seemed to encapsulate what that entire season had been all about...

And don't forget the loss of Tony C.

And then being unceremoniously traded, with Gerry Moses, for only Doug Griffin & a fungoe bat right after the 1970 season ended...

To be followed the following year by the utterly Disastrous trade with Milwaukee after the 1971 season...and of course Sparky Lyle for Danny Cater two weeks before the 1972 season...

Then those two Catastrophic trades with Saint Louis after the 1973 season...Thank goodness for their farm system...

I recall one off season when he broke his leg skiing.

Only the Redsox.

Yep, the 1967 off season...Took him a few years & a couple of other injuries to finally get healthy & productive again...Unfortunately **** O'Connell had already, and short-sightedly, traded him & others to Milwaukee by then...

How can you remember every bad GM move for all four Boston sports teams over the last 60 years? Do you Google it and figure it out? Or did you write it down over the years and go back to your notes? Are some of your notes still on an 8 Track player or did you upgrade the 8 Track and DVD to a flash drive? Every lousy football GM move over the last 60 years is impressive, but now you are reviewing the lousy baseball GM moves, and I think you dove into the lousy hockey moves too. And I am sure you know all of the Celtics from the 60s and 70s. How is it possible to have such a recall especially while living in Japan??????

Im from around the same time period as the Cap'n and think Ive got a good memory. But Damn! I agree, hes gotta have some stash of archives at his fingertips. Probably some top secret shiit from his years with the USMC.

The most painful memories are always the most vivid ones...That, and my brother would always keep me up-to-date whenever I was away.

And yes, I also use sources like Baseball Reference & Wikipedia for things like exact dates, trade specifics etc. that I might have forgotten over the years...It upsets me to see otherwise smart people do stupid things...
