Chris Simms as Brady's backup??

Would love to see him since he has experience. But doubtful in my opinon.. :banned:

I called the Simms to the Pats idea a couple weeks ago in another thread. Once the Bucs made it clear he was going to be cut if everyone else stayed healthy, it hardly took a savant to see Simms having a solid chance to set down here in Patsland.

He's tough, has good perspective after all he's been through, shows leadership, and Simms has proven decent ball skills - totaled up that's a lot more than you'll get from Gut' or Cassel. Except for last year, BB has added a real vet to the QB staff, so the track records suggests BB will do so again if he can find a guy he trusts - maybe like Simms.

By time Simms gets cut it will be too late to compete for a starting role, that's why Gruden is waiting to drop him off the team. The timing makes sense for the Bucs but will leave Simms high and dry, so the concept of signing as a backuyp will be forced upon him. If you have to be a backup how much better could it look for you if the best team in the league reached out to you to be their number 2?

It could happen...

I know that Simms wants out of tampa (and away from Gruden), he has all the skills and can make all the throws, I think landing in NE might actually be great for his career. He would certainely be an upgrade from Cassel.

SOrry but I had to laugh at this. Unless you consider "great for his career" as 0 for 0 for 0 yards.

I'm really worried about some of you. You really don't get it...

Simms can't stick as a 3rd or 4th stringer in the only offense he's ever known, and one very disimilar from what we do here, but he'd make a great backup off the street in September...

We have a veteran QB on the roster by BB's standards - eight years in the league is what he considers veteran. Tommy's so far along he cut that to 7 last year because Cassel was starting his 3rd season. He won't cut Cassel unless he thinks Gutierrez has progressed to the point he's passed him on the depth chart, and it didn't look that way the other night, nor has it in practice. Ergo he won't cut Cassel but he may cut Gutz or sign him to the PS.

Don't know if any of you saw the NFLN program on training camps a couple of years ago. They followed Tampa through camp and it was almost painful to watch what went on between Simms and Gruden. I think he was trying to kill him or cure him and I'm not sure he didn't just F him up in the process. Has he even played a meaningful game since the injury? Given how delicate Garcia is, don't you think they would keep him as their #2 if they thought he had any real shot at helping them win? I mean, they were a playoff team last year and Gruden's job is likely inching close to on the line this season.

This idea that guys who can't stick anywhere would be great here just because they happened to be on the field during some games won in their careers is just lunacy.

Has Bill ever brought a veteran in in September? I can't recall that ever being the case. Anyone who hopes to run this offense however briefly has to be here in the off season and through mini camps or at least in TC to have a half way shot at grasping this offense even vaguely.

I said in another thread I wouldn't be too impressed if Simms was brought in. He's not that good for a start and a few Bucs fans I know would pay for his flights out of Tampa.

Infact, I think they'd pack his suitcase and drive him to the airport.
