I called the Simms to the Pats idea a couple weeks ago in another thread. Once the Bucs made it clear he was going to be cut if everyone else stayed healthy, it hardly took a savant to see Simms having a solid chance to set down here in Patsland.
He's tough, has good perspective after all he's been through, shows leadership, and Simms has proven decent ball skills - totaled up that's a lot more than you'll get from Gut' or Cassel. Except for last year, BB has added a real vet to the QB staff, so the track records suggests BB will do so again if he can find a guy he trusts - maybe like Simms.
By time Simms gets cut it will be too late to compete for a starting role, that's why Gruden is waiting to drop him off the team. The timing makes sense for the Bucs but will leave Simms high and dry, so the concept of signing as a backuyp will be forced upon him. If you have to be a backup how much better could it look for you if the best team in the league reached out to you to be their number 2?
It could happen...
