Chip Kelly to be fired - (MOD UPDATE: He's Been Fired)

Chip Kelly is so bad two NFL organizations will be paying him not to coach..

Florio is already throwing out the idea that Josh leaves and Chip is our new offense coordinator. Not to run his system, but ours with some of his own influence. I don't see it.
No chance BB runs Chips system w TB12 here. No chance

He went 10-6 twice with the Iggles.

They didn't exactly set the world on fire without him.

Chip is not a personnel guy.

Roseman undermined him.

Chip Kelly could be an interesting OC and Rex Ryan an interesting DC on the same team.

You're probably right, but Chip Kelly would be different than most former HCs.

Chip's a UNH grad and lifelong Pats fan from Dover and Manchester, NH. He'd wet his pants if he got a shot with Belichick and Brady. He'd reunite with Legarette Blount who toted the rock at Oregon. He'd do whatever he was asked.

Admission: I'm a huge Chip Kelly fan.

He has a summer house in York, ME too.

I just don't think BB would rip out his offense for Chip's.

Firing any coach after one season is bullsh.t.

Belichick would never change his offensive system for an OC, MacDaniels replacement will come from within the organization.

Too many owners who get enamored with the 1-2 year turnaround jobs we've seen in the league but they don't tend to last.

The teams who have sustained the most success over the last 20 years have been teams with consistent coaching and front office. Hiring and firing two coaches in what, 22 months? Ridiculous. No chance to prove anything.

On the other side, how freaking often do you see a coach fail at one job, get fired, take a new job the same offseason and go on to have success? I don't know the stats but it definitely feels like going from a failed HC gig to picking up another gig immediately is a recipe for failure.

Rex did worse in Buffalo than he did in NY. Chip did worse in SF. I wish I could think of some other recent examples but I think the BBesque 3-5 year break between a first and a second HC gig is a key for potential success in a second coaching stint. The coach has time to reflect and learn from their mistakes.

Your point is a good one. There is a solid group of recent HCs who got fired, became coordinators for a while and succeeded as HCs. Belichick, Kubiak, Carroll, Caldwell come to mind immediately.

Josh will probably join that group.

I hope Jim Caldwell wins today over the Packers.

Not entirely Chip's fault but pretty much all Baalke and the York family. The York family has only had two good head coaches in Steve Mariucci and Jim Harbaugh. They are clueless. They don't care about winning anymore after the stadium was built.

The thing about the 49ers though is that the CEO is very young so he inherited the team. Him and now soon to be ex GM Trent Balke were the ones who "mutually" agreed to separate from Jim Harbaugh which is very unfortunate. Heck the CEO should've fired Balke after last year and started fresh this year. I strongly agree with earlier posters that Chip Kelly is not an NFL coach and should stick to college or get an assistant job elsewhere. Hopefully the 9ers get a GM and coach that can be on the same page.

Hard to believe the team was in a Super Bowl just a couple years ago (and very very nearly won) to be where they are now - and hard not to place the blame at Baalke's feet.

Feel bad for Chip. What the heck is a guy supposed to do in 1 year? Especially after the last guy only got 1 year? Probably makes it unlikely he gets another HC gig.

And the following draft, they had something like 15 picks!

Yep, I thought they were going to be a team to be reckoned with for years because of that situation but they somehow managed to screw it all up royally.

He is like a hurricane, comes in with lots of bluster, leaves lots of damage in his wake and you scratch your head and say WTF........ I saw it first hand in Philly and they couldn't wait to get rid of anything associated with Kelly.

I wouldn't want him as a coach in NE but you are right.

Chip obviously has ideas, but in several instances has maybe overrated his own smarts. SF is stupid to churn so often, but I haven't seen much from Chip to say HE deserved more. Most coaches that stick around 5+ years in the league have at least one good one. Heck : even Rex & Fisher had solid seasons !

Kelly had 10 wins in each of his first two seasons with Philly. He lost to the Saints in the playoffs the first year and had to sit home and watch the 7-8-1 Panthers go in their place the next year. I think he's still learning and would be a great addition to the Pats.

Chip tried to bring a college program to the NFL and in both cases it didnt work, yes he was strapped with bad management and bad players but his overall program never had a chance in the NFL. Thats his decision.

SF might not be a bad deal for Josh, but only if they get a new GM that is competent. They have money and a solid fan base, not a lot better places to go right now and a 8-8 season is a win.

Couple of SF papers have mentioned Pioli as a possible GM candidate. That would be an interesting scenario as it concerns JM. Could SF end up with Pioli and JM and possibly JG?

Josh should stay far far away so should Matt

I'm not sure they can. It was the same issue that Josh and Mangina had when they left. NYFL head coaching jobs are rare and difficult to turn down.

No chance BB runs Chips system w TB12 here. No chance

I think Kelly could benefit from some time here but not as an OC. He needs to see how a successful NYFL team is coached.

That Niners team is pure trash.
