Chad O'Shea to be named WR Coach

Obviously, none of us has any idea about the talents of a junior coaching assistant for the Vikings. So let's ask the obvious question: what's the six degrees of separation here? Can anybody connect the dots of who might have recommended him to BB & co?

O'Shea's resume:
College coach: Houston 1996-99, Southern Mississippi 2000-02. Pro coach: Kansas City Chiefs 2004-05, joined Vikings in 2006.
Well, Chad O'Shea played college ball with Troy Brown. And he took over as STs Coach/Recruiting Coordinator for Southern Mississippi the same year Adalius Thomas was drafted - so they probably knew each other. And, if you look at his daddy's bio, you see a man whom BB would likely have crossed paths with on occasion.

All possible points of congruence, but I think the trail starts at Scott O'Brien:
- Scott O'Brien coached STs at the U of Pittsburgh from 1987-1990 before BB recruited him to Cleveland.
- Scott O'Brien worked for BB in Cleveland from 1991-1995.
- Frank Gansz Jr spent 1988-1989 coaching ST/OL/DB at U of Pittsburgh with Scott O'Brien.
- Frank Gansz Jr spent 1993-97 coaching ST/TE at U of Houston.
- Chad O'Shea was a QB at Houston 1994-1995.
- Chad O'Shea began coaching at Houston in 1996, became WR's coach 1997, and took over Gansz's TE/STs job in 1998.
- Frank Gansz Jr jumped to the NFL (Raiders) in 1998-1999. 2000 is unaccounted for. He coached the Chiefs' STs 2001-2005.
- Chad O'Shea coached STs for the Chiefs 2003-2005.
- Herman Edwards succeeded **** Vermeil in KC in 2006, Gansz leaves for Balltimore and O'Shea for Minnesota.
- BB hires Scott O'Brien, who has kept in touch with his old college coaching assistant Frank Gansz Jr, who has kept in touch with his old college/NFL buddy/assistant Chad O'Shea, who's daddy is very well known in football circles...mail resumes to 1 Patriot Place.

Belichick is simply getting ready for his big St. Patrick' Day celebration, and we're all invited. What better way to do this than hire an O'Brien, promote another O'Brien, and then hire an O'Shea.

Nice work, here's the latest Bio from Vikings.com: Vikings : Coach Profile

Belichick was with Baltimore in 1975, O'Shea's dad, Mike, was with Baltimore starting in 1973 (per Reiss). Not sure how long Mike stayed in Baltimore but the families may have intersected there.

O'Shea was canned when Howie Schnellenburger (sp?) was sent packing and replaced by Ted Marchibroda...who promptly offered a young Bill Belichick $25/week and a cot in his hotel room.

Nice. Very, very nice! The son-of-a-football-man bit paints a picture, too -- just ask McDaniels, Vrabel, Klecko, Slater...and come April, Brian Robiskie.

This can mean only good things for O'Connell.
