Let the rumors commence

My 2 cents: Make this trade happen ASAP, regardless of the assets in return, because odds are Hayward will break at least one body part in the next 45 minutes.

The team doesn't have cap space regardless of whether Hayward opts-in or opts-out of his player option.

I'm neutral on Hayward. He's a good player, but he hasn't shown the ability to stay healthy, so it's too bad we never saw what Hayward could have done in the Playoffs (might have gotten past Miami if Hayward was fully healthy). I'm also not opposed to trade him for someone else or future picks. At the end of the day, this team goes as far as Tatum and Brown's development. I think both can still get significantly better.

The top heavy Celtics, meaning 2 max deals/ one near max deal/ and Smarts sizable salary, has forced Ainge to get his team depth from his many anemic low wage draft picks. After Wanamaker, team depth was abysmal. Trading away perennial injured GH could land Boston some much needed quality NBA depth so that the team would never have to see the undersized, underskilled non factors that are given substantial minutes off the bench and provide nothing.
If the opportunity presents itself, dump the guy

Clearly NBCSports is plagiarizing some of my very advanced Celtics hot-takes........
:)
....though the writer is too timid to suggest jettisoning the roster's perpetually crippling albatross, Gordon Hayward, in order to bolster roster slots 6-8 at the bare minimum.

As Boston’s payroll becomes particularly top-heavy, with two young franchise cornerstones whose rookie extensions are starting to kick in, it’s imperative the Celtics fill the back end of their roster with low-cost, complementary talent plucked from the draft or moves made with the the team's collection of picks.

Inconsistent returns from recent draft classes exposed Boston’s lack of serviceable depth during the bubble playoffs.

I was talking about this with a friend, as I'm sure a million other C's fans were. But the fact that we don't have a spot up shooter, 3 PT specialist is crazy considering our make-up and philosophy.

That's an obvious must and would go a long way. I wouldn't mind Vassell but I think Bey is the better fit. Not in love with this draft. I do think there is a chance we get a good player at 14 or a small trade up. Just wouldn't be happy if I had a top 3-5 pick. We could get good value if we stay at 14 or again move up to 8-10 if we wanted.

There are a few prospects that intrigue me. Anyone have any thoughts on Poku? Terrible competition, young which is good & bad - won't make an impact for at least 2 years, if he works out. Could be someone's perfect complement. 4/5 that can pass, has good vision. Can shoot, has good handles for his size. So fluid, smooth athlete. Nice touch on his shot. Could be ideal third-fourth option on a team like ours in 2-4 years if we keep Tatum, Brown, Smart together.

Really hoping we bring in a few shooters though.

If Hayward opts in, the Celts can trade him and take on similar salary amount in return....if he opts out, then the get nothing for him, nor can they reuse his salary since they are already near the cap even without Hayward.

Turner and Oladipo are better than nothing

If Hayward opts in, Boston will have a $5.7 mill Taxpayer mid-level exemption available to them.
Unfortunately, ownership will owe a boatload of 'over the cap' luxury tax.

If Hayward opts out, Boston will have a $9.25mill Non-taxpayer mid-level exemption available after shedding a couple of minor contracts..

You’ll get more for moving Hayward than with a 9.25 exception

so, who does everyone want in the draft tonight? I honestly have not paid attention to much this year so i couldn't really tell you who. We need players that can shoot consistently and play defense.

I don't think it matters........outside of Onyeka Okongwu, I don't see anyone who would make them better this year.......I was hoping to see them package the picks and trade them for something else.........everyone is either skinny or can't jump.......I'd like for the C's to bring back Mooch Morris and go get Joe Harris

Trade Hayward, move up and grab Toppin, sign Harris.

If they stay put at 14 I would take Cole Anthony. Kira Lewis would be acceptable as well.

Awful news. He's an unbelievable player. Love watching him work without the ball. Tough guy, high effort, big time competitor. Hope he gets right bc he's an all-time great imo.

Board falling pretty decently for the C's. Bey, Vassell, Halliburton, Anthony all alive. We have a good shot at one.
Wouldn't be mad at Nesmith either. At least we'll have multiple options for a decent-good role player.

Really need a 3 point specialist. This teams needs that guy in the worst way. Give me two of them in fact. 3 & D.

**** yea! Not bad at all. One of if not the best shooter in the draft. Sweet stroke.

I wouldn't mind trying to move up 5-8 spots for Bey or Anthony. I'd love to see Poku if not with one of our later picks.

I hadn't paid much attention to the field until the last couple of days. Am I right that this year has literally no draftees who are even 50/50 to become superstars? The #1 pick needs serious work to even be a star player. There are probably 20 guys who will end up playing regular minutes, but that's about it.
