After the Indy game I dont see how we can't take a CB in the first. I woulddn't mind a SS as wellot a LB and with the 3rd pick a WR.
We need that stud CB and a receiver that needs to be doubled teamed is something Brady never has had the pleasure to throw to.
thoughts....

If the season ended today, we'd pick 22. 3 cb's are rated pretty highly
Leon Hall - Michigan, M.McCauley - Fresno St and D.Hughes - Cal. Hughes
and McCauley are over 6ft and 200 lbs. Would be nice to get a bigger cb.
We have the picks to trade up a little. 1 and 3 to move up. Pick our cb.
Recoup that 3rd rounder by trading out of 1st round with 2nd nr. A 2 and
a 3.

1 D.Hughes - Cal - CB
2A - S
2B - ILB
3 - WR

Might even get a supplemental 3. Could take a DL or RB if we want to
think about a replacement for Faulk.

Our offense is set for next year in my mind. I think all our picks in the first few rounds should be defense. I hope we take a CB 1st round, but we don't draft for need, nor should we.

I like your picks here
1 D.Hughes - Cal - CB
2A - S
2B - ILB...Please..and with some speed!
3 - WR

I hope I am wrong but until CJ shows me more I want another WR for Brady to throw to next year.

USC will be on a lot the next couple of weeks. Oregon,Cal,Notre Dame and
UCLA. Damn, that's a tough schedule. Already played Nebraska and Arkansas.
I wish all colleges had a schedule like that and there was a playoff. Anyway.
Watch S.Smith - wr. We'd have to consider him at any point after the 1st round I believe. Might be too good to pass up. Kind of like when we took
B.Watson.

Its extremely unlikely that the Patriots would get a supplemental 3rd because the only player eligible for that level was Givens and he is doing horrible.

Also, why take a CB if there aren't any that are that good. I think the Patriots will draft a corner or they will move Wilson over and they will draft a safety.

lol "why take a cb if there aren't any that are that good."

next thing he says "i think the patriots will draft a corner"

why on earth would they move wilson over to cb, he's already an above average fs.....draft a cb and let him play the slot in nickel, dime, and quarter

wilson is already used to playing FS and he'll be more affective to play fs..and the drafted cb will be more affective

although i think its more important to draft a safety, but cb is still very important

Right, everything being equal we'll draft a CB first especially if Samuel leaves. But if there's a great player somewhere else and just an OK CB, we won't be taking the CB.

The way I understand the comp pick system, the primary determinant, by far, is the average annual value of the contract. Playing time, honors, etc., can enter in, but it's only a minor component (maybe 10% or so). But I could be wrong.

You're right. AdamJT13 is the man on this.

You can read his whole thesis here :

http://www.kffl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=163280

This is the pertinent part :

"Although the formula has never been revealed, by studying the compensatory picks that have been awarded since they began in 1993, I?ve determined that the primary factor in the value of the picks awarded is the average annual value of the contract the player signed with his new team, with small adjustments for playing time and postseason honors."

I like these picks, but as we do not know the status of Graham might need to pick another TE in the first 3 rounds. I know safeties are not usually a 1st round pick, but imagine this D with Troy P or Ed Reed type of safety??

Hopefully they draft a cornerback and follow up with a free safety since

Eugene Wilson is a free agent in 2008.

I tell people straight up that the 2007 NFL draft may be the best draft when it comes from the talent at CB. I mean the talent from rounds 1-4 is going to be real good. Names like John Talley of Duke is a sleeper, Aaron Ross of Texas, Darrelle Revis of Pitt, and Antoine Cason of Arizona are going to be good. My favorite could be Fred Bennett of South Carolina. I would love to see him in horns. Bennett is a stud type CB. We can't forget about Malcolm Jenkins of Ohio State, he is going to be real good, and he could end up in round 3, because the CB talent is real strong.

Some small school sleepers at CB who I think will be real good,
Travarous Bain of Hampton
Stephen McCoy of Teas A&M-Kingsville
Greg Lovely of Missouri State
Corey Graham of New Hampshire
Buster Larkins of Grand Valley State
Courtney Brown of Cal Poly
Brennan Spain of Southeast Missouri
Amp Boone of Aransas Pine Bluff

I have to agree with Miller on several items,

First this draft has a lot of talent in the secondary on the first day. Besides at least 4 decent CB's, there are 3 real good safties, all merit first round consideration.

Second, I like Bennett a lot also. We did the Clemson-Carolina game last weekend and Bennett came out before the game and you could tell right away, he should never have played in that game. The hammy was tight and hurting. Right before the game he was trying to loosen it up on the bike.
I give him tons of credit for dealing with the pain and trying to give it a go in a rivalry game, but it wasn't meant to be.

Let me add 1 more thing about CB Hughes of Cal. I think he's slow. I've watched a few Cal games now and he relies on anticipation and guessing rather than speed. Yes he has some quickness and BB loves that, but I'm thinking Troy Brown could dust him in a foot race at this point.

Ochmed,
What are your thoughts on South Carolina MLB Jasper Brinkley, and do you have any insight as to whether he will enter the draft? He had that huge sack at the end of the game, I believe. He has great size and seems to play well in coverage as well. His twin brother plays DE for USC, too.

I don't know a lot about him and really didn't pay that much atention to him in the game.
However I did see a big LB out run Svelle Newton early in the game. If that was him, then I'm very impressed with his speed, especailly at that size.
