One last thought before on to Miami.

Fitzpatrick in two games vs. NE:

591 yards 5 TDs 0 INTs 103.7 QBR (yes, one game we did not have our safeties)

Do you think BB may switch up the Ryan - Marshall and Butler - Decker matchups if we meet again in the playoffs? Do you think this matchup is working?

Butler gave up just 1 reception and 6 yards yesterday. If he could contain Marshall while Ryan + McCourty completely take Decker out of the game that could be more risky but more effective.

Ryan shouldn't have been covering Marshall without McCourty back there to help out. He was outmatched. With McCourty back, yes. Keep Ryan on Marshall with ample help and stick Butler on Decker.

I'm not too concerned w the secondary if they're healthy...my concern is the lack of pass rush yesterday.... We know how BB has a massive hard on for not getting behind "mobile qbs" and will sacrifice pass rush to contain a running qb...I hope to God he's not counting Fitzpatrick as a "mobile" qb....

Butler is much more physical corner than Ryan, so yes, I would put him on Marshall.

Ryan shut down Marshall in the first match up when McCourty helped out over the top.

And I thought Harmon was more of a problem than Ryan yesterday. With Chung and McCourty out, they played a lot more zone and two deep safety sets. It seemed the Jets were picking on Harmon more than Ryan and throwing to his zone.

Of course with Chung and McCourty back, they will play a lot more man and single deep safety sets. That will help more in the coverage AND against the run.

Not at all concerned if everyone else is reasonably healthy, contend that McCourty at safety is the guy who makes this whole d backfield that much better.. then Chung is a monster on those shorter situations.

You need corners that can play man coverage somewat. This is why having revis last year was huge. Some of these corners need the safety help. The defense was pretty much vanilla in the first half.

Hard to trust man to man concepts when one of the best safeties in the league is out of the line-up. Especially when you're playing the duo of Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.

True but your corners have to do a better job. Shows u the depth sucks. Richards' s awful. Hope DMAC comes back 100 percent.

The defense held that offense to 20 in regulation without McCourty and Chung and with playing a lot of zone. Maybe they can play better but they didn't suck as badly as some make it out to be. I do agree that Richards does not look good (though it is still very early). I noted in the game thread that he looks like he's moving with lead weights around his ankles in sideline to sideline pursuit.

Marshall sure picked on him with that OPI. I love how they didn't show the clear OPI in the replay. NYJFL* at work there.

They end up showing the all-22 but you can still see it's OPI from there.
