Business Insider "BB's Drafting of DBs Is Killing The Pats"

So a twenty year old kid trying to make a name is complaining about BB. He's a football expert..

5 SuperBowls and 3 more AFCC losses wasn't enough...I must be morbid.

YES.........Finally... A comprehensive sports article out of "Business Insider"..... Your sports authority.

No comments yet on the premise of the article, but I had to mark the irony of BI attempting to get ppl to take them serious on a sports article.

BB has flubbed his share of DB picks, but this article is LOLbad.

I'd like to see BB results against other teams.

It sure appears he could have done a lot better.
Even McCourty had to be move to Safety to be good.

I wonder when he made those 1st and 2nd round picks what other
CB were available that did turn out to be a great pick.

Maybe Bill should try to get a scout that has a good rep in finding
great NFL corners.

Someone is pointing out the obvious Patriots struggles drafting DBs, in an article. Let's string him up!

Wasn't McCourty having a bit of a resurgence at CB last year? Sure I saw a stat saying completion % against him was in the mid 30s.

It's just a case of he's a good Corner but a borderline elite Safety.

The team has whiffed on a number of DBs though but they have also gained McCourty & Dennard via the draft too.

Also, if being one of the best teams in the NFL every year is "killing" a team, what's happening in Oakland and the NJ Swamp?

Show me a GM who has a perfect draft record though.

Article is flawed enough that critics shouldn't need to resort to ad hominems.

the rumors of the patriots demise have been greatly exaggerated

The article is not good, lumping 6th and7th rounders in as an example of a failure to draft DB's. It's also factually inaccurate saying only one made the pro bowl when Meriweather, McCourty and Samuel have all made it. They actually got very good value with Wilson (2nd) and Samuel (4th) in 2003 as well as with Hobbs (3rd) and Sanders (4th) in 2005. However from 2007 on, a lot of wasted draft capital in the first two rounds.

Meriweather 1st, 2007
Wheatley - 2nd, 2008
Chung -2nd, 2009
Butler - 2nd, 2009
Dowling - 2nd, 2011
Wilson - 2nd, 2012

McCourty - (1st, 2010) being the only hit out of this group of first and second rounders.

you know you are doing something right when Business insider is trying to tell you that you are doing something wrong.

I have no problem with the premise of the article. BB has not been the best at drafting BB. But the headline is just aweful. Killing the Patriots we have been one of the final 4 the last 2 years so it really seems to be killing us. And the facts leave a lot to be desired.

At least one of its big points is wrong. of the 21 players at least 3 have made pro bowls McCourty, Merriweather, and Asante with at least 5 appearances between them.

Also I think we all fail to give enough credit to guys who were not studs but solid starters for a few years in a row. Like Eugene Wilson, Hobbs, and Sanders.

Of the list I would say 5 are good picks (2 great) and the book still out on a few with one of those being Dennard. Not good for sure but made to look worse by the way it was framed.

It's interesting that Butler seems to have resurrected in Indy.

Belichick has done an absolutely horrendous job of drafting defensive backs. This is self evident truth. You guys do know the man isn't infallible, right? If you want an example of his ****ty drafting at the position killing this team, look no further than last year's AFC Championship after Talib went out of the game.

Bill is in the argument for best coach of all time, and his achievements speak for themselves, but that doesn't mean his mistakes have to constantly be excused.

He always seemed to be on the cusp of "getting it." I rooted hard for him to make it here. Any idea how his camp/pre-season in IND went?

Looks like he's slated as Indianapolis' Kyle Arrington, playing inside with Toler-Davis on the outside.

He might have been the one they gave up on too soon but he wasn't good in 2010 or 2011. Still, they cut him and brought in Antuan Molden, Nate Jones, Sterling Moore, Malcolm Williams, Marquise Cole and Derrick Martin.

Wow, I must have missed this, I have been too busy studying NFL Draft Scout for investing advice.

Yeah, he was terrible when he was here. Weird how these things work...sometimes a change of scenery is all it takes. Look at Tommy Kelly.
