Buck/Aikman to be the new broadcast team on MNF?

I like Buck. Kinda surprised how many people here hate him.

Michaels is the best to ever do it, IMO.

Buck just doesn't do much for me. I don't loathe him, he's just kind of...meh.

Michaels OTOH I'd put right up there with Curt Gowdy, Keith Jackson and (in their primes) Summerall and Enberg. Sadly, both Summerall and Enberg stayed with it a bit longer than they probably should have.

Buck and Aikman give up the best NFC game of the week for the ESPN Monday Night Duds. Buck also gives up the #1 baseball role and World Series. Will he become ESPN baseballs lead guy?

I wonder if Fox thought it was time to move on from both.

The top announcing teams get paid huge amounts. Do they really impact the size of the viewing audience? Isn't the game itself the draw?

We all have to pay more for our sports cable packages because these guys need to get paid millions for very little value add and in many cases value reduction. And don’t get me started on sideline reporters.

Is he better or worse than Jim Nance? God, Nance is awful. Nance and Buck both sound like they're announcing golf games. Just one tone the whole time, barely going up or down.

And god, neither of them have a sense of humor.

Who knows, I might be only in this, but I love Michaels. If nothing else, but for two things.

1) Any time they would feature Boston for a Foxboro game, he would note how far away it is from there. It's like the camera guys are trying to add visual interest to Foxboro. And Al is just like, "NOPE, I'M GONNA TELL THE AUDIENCE THAT'S NOWHERE NEAR HERE."

2) His complete and utter disinterest in any of the commercial reads. He goes a bit monotone and to me, it sounds as if he could, he would add 'who cares' at the end of each one. "And that's Cop Rock following the game tonight. Whatever. Who cares."
Michaels is the best. Don't shoot me but Iike Romo and Nance too.

My favorite of the regular broadcast team-ups in recent memory was Simms and Gumbel. Those two guys had a certain level of friendly antagonism towards each other that was hilarious.

Probably the last regular team-up I liked if we discount Michaels/Madden, Madden/Summerall.

My favorite regular season team-ups of the past: Enberg/Olsen. Criqui/Trumpy.

Yeah, Gumbel was good.

Joe Buck is the the most horrible broadcaster of all-time, and this is evidence we live in an alternate universe.

The problem with Buck is he's foremost a baseball announcer and brings that easygoing matter-of-fact delivery to football where it doesn't fit. Aikman seldom gives any worthwhile insight, he just describes afterward what the viewing audience already has seen. Those two making millions for what they do is downright criminal.

The golden era of football broadcasting was 1960s-1970s -- Chris Schenkel, Tom Brookshier, Jack Whitaker, etc. Those guys really added to the excitement.

Funny thing is that most baseball fans think Buck stinks as well and think that he likes football more than baseball…..

I disagree, I do think he’s a baseball guy first and foremost, but I also don’t really like his style in either sport.
