That is 100 percent correct. People are making fun of the Bengals for taking a player that most of them wanted on the Patriots just hours ago. Funny how quickly things turn around here. I guess the media isn't the only ones in the spin business.

REALLY? I guess I need to go back and check on what was said here a few hours ago - most of the board discussion I saw here over the last few weeks was that most people didn't want him anywhwere near the Patriots.

I don't doubt you're right about everyone looking on the bright side had we taken him, but I think you're way off in thinking that there was a lot of clammoring for the Pats to use a 3rd round pick or higher on the guy.

I think that some of us felt that if he was good enough for Bioli, then he was good enough for us. But the matter seemed to be largely left to the discretion of Bioli, and to be most likely based on what Al Groh told him in secret.

I live in Virginia and my sister attends UVA. This guy has talent. What he does with it is anybody's guess, and no longer of much concern to us!

That's pretty much how I remember it, I remember a few willing to risk a 4th or 5th, but many more saying flat-out 'no thank you' and nobody willing (that I recall) anything higher than a 3rd. Actually, the majority seemed to feel that after Groh was at our camp for the day or two, BB had whatever info he needed on the Brooks decision and it was a done deal, we just had to sit back and wait to see what the outcome was.

Personally, I was expecting Saban to take him with a 3rd, I'm surprised he didn't. And I find Ron's view of us regular fans kinda disturbing.

Saban didn't, and neither did the packers of the 49ers..Bengals picked after all them. some of them might have put in claims if he had dropped to the 4th...

I wasn't all that surprised...Reports say saban called brooks yesterday...that means he either said we'll pick you, or that were not interested have a nice life... the results speak for themselves...

Go back and look at the posts and see how many actually wanted the guy. Not many. But don't let facts get in the way

Kinda scary to think about the Bengals LB's though, Brooks, Polk & Thurman can be very good for a long time.
I woukldn't worry to much about that lineup. Thurman was suspended four games and by game 5 it's likley likely Brooks will be suspended too. Maybe they can go to the CFL and tackle Ricky.

Marvin Lewis must love "The Longest Yard". He certainly seems to be building a team with that kind of philosophy.

actually the results don't speak for themselves.

because either
1. he said we'll pick you (in 4th)
or
2. have a nice life

and we can't be sure which happened.

The Bengals -Stripes R Us

Now we know why the Bengals uniforms have stripes . . . so their players won't feel out of fashion while in prison.

I think that Brooks has an abundance of talent and intincts. However there's to this game than just talent.
If Brooks can get his head together, grow up and stay clean, he could be an awesome player.

First Sullivan and now Thurman having substance abuse issues???? What kind of program is Richt running down there at Georgia??????

Bengals just might be the first franchise to field two competitive teams, with one being in America, and the other being in the CFL.

Kind of like an NFL Europe, but for Bad Boys.

This guy was all about risk. And frankly I'm relieved the Pats didn't gamble on him. The guy was kicked off for his team for a reason. Giving up a 1st day pick is way too risky. I'm glad the Bengals feel they can take that risk. We'll just have to see what happens.

Bengals defend picking the dregs of society...

In an unusual move, [Bengals owner] Brown issued a statement Friday reassuring fans that the team has standards for its players.

"We want our fans to know that we share their concerns regarding the recent off-field conduct of several Bengals players," Brown said. "We expect our players to be good citizens, as most are, and we hold them accountable for their conduct under team and league rules."

It doesn't look like Marvin is calling the shots:

BROWN MADE THE CALL ON BROOKS

A league source tells us that, although Bengals coach Marvin Lewis has plenty of influence over the composition of his team's roster, the decision to select Virginia linebacker Ahmad Brooks in the third round of the Supplemental Draft came from owner Mike Brown.

Our guess? Lewis is putting the word out that Brown made the decision in order to deflect a mounting storm of criticism regarding the team's addition on Marvin's watch of guys like Chris Henry and A.J. Nicholson and Odell Thurman and Frostee Rucker and Fahu Tahi.

Even if Brown did in fact make the decision, we wonder what if anything Marvin had to say as the boss was pondering the possibility. Did the coach say, "You know, this guy's college coach is putting out the word that the kid is a turd, and there are reports he failed multiple drug tests"? Or did Marvin merely keep his mouth shut and let nature take its course?

Our Internet gambling money is on the latter.
