What you need is a true evaluation of the STRONG Safety position. Something don't seem to have. Sanders has been playing very well back there. So he only had 2 interceptions. He's a friggin STRONG SAFETY. That means he's up in run support more than back. What you seem to NOT understand is that if Sanders has a LOT of tackles, THAT is a problem. When Harrison was leading the Chargers with tons of tackles, their defenses were horrendous.

Sorry, BradytoMoss, but I'll take Rodney Harrison and Bill Belichick saying that Sanders is a starting safety. He may not be an ALL PRO or even a PRO-BOWLER. But his being solid and not giving up HUGE plays is a helluva lot better than what you make him out to be. I think your expectations are what are out of whack. Honestly and truly. And it will lead to more heartbreak for you.

DaBruinz, hear me out and read my posts. I speak the truth when I evaluate James Sanders and you even said it yourself, he's not AP All Pro nor will he ever be, as BB would say: he is what he is. He's a stay at home, keep it safe backliner who at times has shown an ability to be a good open field tackler and at other times has shown that he's a very below avg to avg open field tackler and a poor pursuit angler at times (see Addai's run on 11/4).

You mentioned James in run support, I have news for you DaBruinz. Rodney was our SS this year (not Sanders) and Rodney was our LOS run support assignee. James hung back in his deep zone for the majority of the snaps except those times when the Pats played teams with great TE's (see the def game plan against Dallas Clark). Rodney would draw those assignments.

Let me throw some numbers at you, what do you think of Antoine Bethea of the Colts (both play the same FS spot). I view Bethea as a slightly above average FS, nothing special and I'm sure you would think the same. Well guess who put up the better numbers this year?

13 games - Bethea 46 solo 18 asst - 4 Ints
15 games - Sanders 52 solo 19 asst - 2 Ints

Bethea has a higher per game production across the board, and to me Bethea is a mediocre to a slighty above medicore safety.

Bethea is only in his 2cond year
James is in his 3rd year

Again, don't misread me. I like James Sanders, I really do, he's a great kid and he can play, I just want to see a little more out of him, that's all I'm saying.

2 rookie starting corners AND Lance Briggs playing ILB in 3-4? No chance IMO.

Ahhhhhh....my B.

incidently, Chad Jackson (who you thought he as talking about) can work out of the slot, and is a good underneath option. Those who think he's simply a "burner" prove to actually know little about his playing ability, and college career.

Here's a hint, The Gators ran their offense through Jackson with him working out of the slot. That's why he had 88 receptions his final season.

No offense to the posters who offered solid insight in this thread, but I cannot get past the 'cut Colvin and replace him with Bobby ******* Carpenter' projection. And I say this while having been a huge fan of his when he played for OSU.

I've read your posts and they only reinforce that you have an inaccurate reading on Sanders and they don't come across as you liking him at all.

Bethea is a Free Safety. Sanders is more of a strong safety who Belichick put out in the FS. Bethea plays in a Tampa-2 system. Sanders plays in a Cover-3 Zone system. To me, that says a LOT about the fact that BB feels Sanders can handle the deep zone.

I have news for YOU, BradytoMoss, when Rodney wasn't on the field, SANDERS was and SANDERS was the SS. And that includes during the SB when Meriweather was out there at FS and in the nickel situations.

I can show you a multitude of "poor angles" taken by guys like Rodney Harrison, Mike Vrabel, and Tedy Bruschi. I don't see you ripping them. Bad plays happen.
