Patriots Player Departure BREAKING: Joe Milton traded to Dallas

trading him for essentially the same value he was selected at a YEAR AGO makes ZERO sense.

If they draft another QB on day 3 of the draft again I will lose my mind. That extends to the next 3 years btw!

I've definitely considered. For this value, I just wouldn't have made that determination upfront. I place a lot of value on having a good developmental QB pipeline. Especially because as much as we love ours, he's still not proven and he had some injuries last year along with a playing style that's conducive to them.

We moved up from #217 to #171. That's not nothing, but it's hardly a lot either. Especially one month out from the draft where it's not even like there's a specific prospect with a high grade we can say we're doing it for. If you bring Milton to camp and he's a puddle trying to run McDaniels' offense then you cut him and that's the value you missed out on. It's not something I'd lose sleep over. He has physical tools and you saw it translate for one meaningless game against third stringers. I'm doubtful he'll ever be anything but I'm also not 100% sure he won't. I'd have wagered on his development over cashing in for this now.
I said this I believe on page 1 or 2

Not saying Milton will end up being worth a 1st rounder, but the timing is stupid!
There was no rush for us. Make Dallas (and others) get a little more desperate. Either right before the draft - we could get a 4th or even 3rd for some crazy team... or right after, when some team didn't get who they wanted and we trade for a player we really need.
Someone's going to either get stuck with their d*ck in their hands or be afraid of the same at the draft and would have been a much better trade opportunity.

That would have been terrible. It would result in his trade value being much higher.
Drake Maye is not Patrick Mahomes…yet…
Many Pats fans treat Maye like he is a 7 time all pro.
He has won 1 game

Leave options at qb until Maye has accumulated bigger sample size
Then why do league scouts etc say they are really, really high on Maye? They realize the **** he had last year, and a lot of his mistakes weren't on him. Maye is more than fine.

A 5th??? I'm almost as annoyed by this as the stupidity of the Orange Moron.

We have to assume the Pats know what their doing, but they need to explain it to us fans so we can see their reasoning, because as of now this makes zero sense and does not help the team.

Is anyone here more enthused after this trade?

Pats need a qb 3 for TC and as emergency QB
So they will have to either draft one ( with less experience and talent than Milton)
Or sign an undrafted free agent with less talent than Milton.
How does this make any sense at all?

When you are the least talented team in the league on offense you do not give away a player with high ceiling

Unless Vrabel and McD hate him (possible explanation)

Why not let Milton play in some preseason games and see if that ups his value?

I have a bad feeling about this deal.

They're not going to take the podium and talk about how they don't think Milton is very good despite fan hype over how far he can throw it. That's just not realistic. I understand fans wanting real explanation from the team on certain roster transactions, but have to remember that the guys they're adding to the team or removing from the team are people and it's just bad business to treat them with a lack of empathy or respect and disparage them publicly. You're always going to get sugarcoated answers from the team when they're talking about things because the human beings on the team deserve to be treated with some kindness publicly.

I suspect McDaniels is behind this and must not like him as a person or his play style

If Ben Johnson had been hired, Milton would still be on team

How much different is Milton from Maye?

Both are mobile with big arms.

Hawt take prediction: This is the first domino in a longer play to move up from 38.

I've been thinking the best strategy would be to go into the draft already holding Minnesota's 24th overall pick. This 5th could be a step in that direction. Give Minny 38 + a 3rd + a 5th.

Knowing we can get a strong LT prospect at 24 would give the team ultimate freedom to do whatever it wants at 4.

Hopefully Maye is more accurate and reads defenses better
Milton has better pure physical tools

With the same unit Maye was dealing with, Milton beat the Bills. Cue the, the bills were not trying. they were playing vanilla offense and defense, they can turn on/off the competitive drive at any time. The sun was in their eyes.

To me, Milton looked better in that game than Maye did in any of this other 14 games. The idea that we are all in on Maye might be what the front office thinks, but as a fan, I absolutely want to see more of Milton. I'm not all in on anyone.

God forbid someone strikes gold with a sixth round QB that takes over a struggling team. This is like trading Brady to keep Bledsoe. Of course Milton is not Brady, neither is Maye.

No. But...

We aren't in the locker room, the meetings, film study or practice. There's gotta be something that the league knows that we don't and that's why they didn't hold out for a day 2 pick. Maybe the 10 cent head and million dollar arm thing is really a thing and he can't run a true NFL offense, never mind one that JMcD can draw up. Against a vanilla D on week 18, where he runs around playing backyard football? Sure. Can he process pre-snap reads and go thru his progressions? None of us know.

I'm going back to the first part of your statement: we have to assume they know what they are doing. There's gotta be some secret level NFL **** that says that no one is going to overpay for a back up QB. Everyone here thought Jimmy G was worth more than a 2nd. We all thought this kid was worth more than they got. Ok, whatever... moving on. It's done.

All I can say is this: Vrabel et al. have access to a lot more data on Milton than we do.

They may feel that, based on what they've seen in practice, that what happened with Milton in the Bills game basically is his ceiling. After all, the Bills weren't making any real effort to win that game.
