ya

well i have said it before and i will say it again. The NFL will never say that they made a mistake during our game. The only reason they did so in the dolts game, was because the squealers won. If the squealers had lost, we would have gotten the same song and dance. The same holds true if we would have won, i am sure there would have been a different story!

The NFL couldn't handle the PR nightmare it would cuase if they admitted to mistakes and that team lost the game,

It's a good point. The NFL has to find a way to make the officials less obtrusive. And with pass interference that means to either lessen the penalty (to 15 yards) or only call flagrant ones. Or some combination. But a 40+ yard spot foul penalty on ticky tack (if that) pushing and shoving ruins the integrity of the game and what the players and coaches work so hard for.

They're going to have to do something about pass interference. The judgement card is bs as there are rules about what constitutes legal and illegal contact, as Mike pointed out last night. Therefore replay is a valid tool, particularly since you need to see irrefutable proof to overturn (most of the time anyway...)

I wouldn't add to the length of the game since coaches only get the 2 challenges anyway and have to pick their spots. Close and late when this stuff often happens it would then be up to the booth as it is in judgement calls under 2 min. And perhaps it should be an automatic review whenever the foul is called in the endzone - either that or change the penalty to 15 yards. Otherwise that foul just has too many implications regarding outcome to be left to the momentary whim of a part time employee.

Some are already raising the concern that just putting the ball up in those situations is becoming a calculated risk strategy given the way Polian's whining has gotten the contact rule emphasis so perverted in favor of the offense.

IMO this discribes Payton's 2nd down pass on the last drive before the FG attempt! At the least, they were looking for the PI, Dungy was screaming for it almost before the guys hit the ground in the endzone! I think it would be interesting to take a look at the stats for this past year on PI's in or near the end zone.

hey guys I dont mean to beat a dead horse here but I haven't heard anything on here about a couple things on this Asante Samuel PI play.

The side judge that was in best position and was closest to the play watched the entire play and did not even attempt to go for the flag. The official who made the call came running in after the play was over and throws a very late flag after watching the play from the opposite side of the field.

That I cannot understand. The side judge needs to step up and say "hey I was right there and it was a good defensive play, waive off the flag and let's play some more football".

The Field Judge did try to argue incidental contact, but according to Pereira the Back Judge becomes the primary official once the play crosses into the end zone. He called Asante for an arm bar and wasn't taking no for an answer - shades of Ben Dreith. Pereira danced around the call by declaring he would never second guess an official's judgement, off course Pereira looked a little singed from the heat HIS officials took after the poor officiating last weekend. :bricks:
