Who cares what the NFL likes?

What's next, you can't be a Muslim or an atheist?

I'm not saying that I agree with it, I'm saying that's the way it is. NFL players can't celebrate in a way the league doesn't approve of, be too political, complain about the refs, and a whole host of other things. It's a very tightly controlled environment that aims to promote and protect itself and the personal proclivities players are secondary to the goals of the league, and are harshly punished when they do things that paint the league in a bad light. Probably to make sure that it doesn't alienate viewers by re-iterating their supposed values back to them. From the league's perspective, the more control the better. I prefer openness, the league prefers control. So Goodell is doing what he can to make sure that Spikes keeps his dong offline.

If he was on my team he would be gone, no questions asked.....Your a Professional football player quit acting like a rap star or a Hollywood twit.

Grow up B.Spikes, your a man now not a little kid.......idiot.

Thank god for Mayo and Meriweather, they know what it takes to be a Professional football player.

For something that happened in college? What a fantastic over reaction!

Upstater was making a point...the NFL IS tightly controlled...BUT Badel KNOWS also that he strays from that a bit too far and he'll go down quicker that a rookie RB playing a ONE D. AND That also includes looking to where ONE should not..And looking back is just that..where Badel has NO BUSINESS looking. WE ALL better be sure Badell keeps his eyes where they should be..for he starts looking into the past and Pandorra's Box will take him down QUICKLY!! I assure you theer will be a LINE of lawyers taking on the NFL if he acts on this..and with GOOD reason. If THIS happened when Spikes WAS a Patriot..OF COURSE he would have to rule...that it happened before IS OUT of his line of sight. He goes craning his neck over the line and it will be cut off.

That's on the field behavior. if Spikes is filming himself with a cheerleader on the sidelines, then yes he's off the team.

But you can be political and a whole other things on your own time, and the NFL can't do a thing about it, unless you've gotten yourself mixed up with the law.

Agreed. 18 year old kids with a regard few college kids could even dream of (see recruiting practices for high school kids by Division I football programs if there is any question as to whether an athlete's experience at school is any different than the typical college student) and he expects these guys will be members of the moral majority? I believe a reality check is in order.

He probably needs to review the Eugene Robinson story if he expects top tier athletes spend their free time at night in the reading room.

At least we know we won't be seeing him in any Viagra commercials anytime soon....... :bricks:

If the NFL suspends him for a sex tape, then the NFL needs to stop showing Viagra, Cialis commercials. After all those are promoting sex.

Also people please stop with the hollier than thou stance, there is NO ONE on this board who did not do something stupid when growing up I know I have and still will do something stupid in the future.

How many NFL players yesterday when this came out started to get a little uptight that the sex tapes they have would get out.

What is worse having consensual sex on tape or being a father of 8 children with 6 women in 5 states and had 5 paternity suits. Also had to get a $500,000 dollar advance from the Jets to pay off his child support. Sorry not paying your child support is much much more serious thing than a sex tape. And he did not get suspended for this violation.

Exactly. Even if there is no disciplinary action taken, don't be surprised to see a lot of people suddenly coming forward with sex tapes in order to get their 15 minutes and some cash. A fine/suspension would only open this floodgate faster.

The investigation will be to determine if BS released the video himself or aided the release of it in some way. That would be a current violation of the conduct policy. If he was responsible for the relaese, there will be a suspension. (IMO)

But you can get "mixed up with the law", while not being arrested, not being charged with anything and still wind up with a 6 game suspension. That is enough to show us exactly what the personal conduct policy is all about. (I happen to agree with that particular suspension, if only from the perspective that he probably did it and deserved to be punished somehow.) Also, I'm sure that if a player gets too political in a TV interview he'll get a talking too. Something like that happened a while back in the NBA and involved a fine, IIRC. Sure, it is a huge slippery slope. But the more the league can influence player behavior to their benefit, within the law and the CBA, it appears that they will try to exert that influence.

The NFL doesn't show commercials. TV networks do.

Quick question: has it been proven to be Spikes yet?

I didn't take the time to know what Chatroulette is ... oh man Spikes either did not know or he's a complete idiot. You log on and you're connected with some other random person who logged on. They get to see you do your thing and you them. The other people can record you and whatever.

Thus the roulette ... unreal ... Spikes should get a 4 game or 1/2 season sit down just for being a dope.

Over-react much?

Only if you and others are banned from the board for being over reactive...just as silly

For something he did in College?! For doing something that wasn't illegal and was an act engaged in voluntarily by two adults?

Good grief.

I'm pretty sure something exactly like this happened, but I don't remember the details. If I get a minute I'll try and google it.
