I'm not saying that I agree with it, I'm saying that's the way it is. NFL players can't celebrate in a way the league doesn't approve of, be too political, complain about the refs, and a whole host of other things. It's a very tightly controlled environment that aims to promote and protect itself and the personal proclivities players are secondary to the goals of the league, and are harshly punished when they do things that paint the league in a bad light. Probably to make sure that it doesn't alienate viewers by re-iterating their supposed values back to them. From the league's perspective, the more control the better. I prefer openness, the league prefers control. So Goodell is doing what he can to make sure that Spikes keeps his dong offline.
