Well, Browner would bring back an element of the defense that we've been lacking...

Browner did get a lot of penalties. But he also brought something to the Secondary that was lacking for a long time. He brought back an attitude, a chip on the shoulder that was desperately missing from our Secondary for quite some time. Butler and McCourty seem to be bringing that attitude back this season as well. It is something I love seeing.

More than that. He shut down Mathews after he had torched the Pats for a TD +.

I just noticed he is a FA and was last cut by the Hawks this summer, did he have a really bad year and really unable to gain his form back?

I looked up his stats once last year and he led the league, by far, in Defensive Pass interference calls. He always was a PI liability but it got worse after he left.

Anyways he was a perfect fit while he was here. A tough hard hitting bruiser which complemented Revis's finesse game. It worked out well.

There's the adage that Belichick cuts guys a year too early rather than a year too late.

In this case, Belichick cut ties with Browner at exactly the right moment. By midway through the next season he was useless on the field.
