Brady v. the Saints in 2009

Does anyone think that BB maybe knew about the bounty program and that played into him uncharacteristically pulling Brady with enough time left to make a comeback in that game? I remember he got hammered for it at the time, people saying that he was "running up the score but the moment they are down he throws in the towel"

Its an interesting thought, but wasn't that the game with Bill talking to Brady on the sideline about not being able to get the team to play how he wants? The defense couldn't stop a nose bleed during that game. Nothing the offense did would fix that iirc.

no I agree we weren't winning that game, but it was still a little odd for them to essentially give up when they did. I wonder if there's anything on the cutting room floor with Bellichick talking about it. I'm trying to think if there was any crossover in players coming from the Saints to the Pats before that or how well he knows Greg Williams....

BB was working as a secret agent for Goodell to collect information on the Saints bounty program.

I don't think any Bounty proposition played any part in this game. The Patriots were beaten by the 2009 Juggernaut and nothing more.

you're misunderstanding my post. I'm not in anyway saying they had a realistic chance, I'm just saying that they took him out when they still had a mathematical possibility and that was a little strange at the time. I'm also definitely not saying that it played any part in them losing.

you make a great point. But you're right, BB rarely pulls brady, even if it's the last meaningless game of the season where the pats already clinched a bye.

I'm not misunderstanding your post, I'm disagreeing with the possibility entirely given what I recall of that game (and that was a beat down).

Rodney Harrison got taken out by one of Gregg Williams' players in 2006. I'm sure Belichick was aware that it was a possibility.

I don't think so. As QB12 noticed, if BB knew about this bounty program, we probably wouldn't have done that joint practice next year. We simply got destroyed in that game and pulling out Brady had more sense than leaving him on the field.

I was at that game in NO and the Saints' fans around us were surprised TB came out so soon, as were we.

No. He didn't know of it in the classic sense of "the Saints prolly have a bounty program, so I better pull Brady", but he surely could have been like "damn, that D is swarming all over my number 1 asset. Well, we're getting our ass kicked anyway, and if I leave him in there, he may get hurt. Eff it, give Him the hook".

That's more realistic in my mind. It's kinda knowing, without really knowing. BB is a master at that stuff.

no BB just did not want them puting 50 on he's defense so he pulled he's starters so the saints would call off the dogs and just end the game

Ordway & Holley addressed this today on EEI.

Holley said the NFL fraternaty "gossips" so BB probably would have heard of a bounty program at NO. Considering the way the game was going, BB could have used the headhunter rumor to take the unusual step of pulling Tommy so early.

Holley also said headhunting isn't completely unusual on other teams, but not to the degree the Saints took it.

Same here. It was odd even though the game was over. We've seen TB in game out of hand in the Pat's favor. Maybe we're not use to such domination?

I'll admit to wanting to leave before TB got pulled. I wanted to back to Harrahs.
Horrible game to be at. Glad it was in New Orleans, though.
