No, I don't think you really do know what rap is. Not good rap, anyways. Good rap is good music. As someone who's completely indifferent to the genre (I dislike most rap, actually), I found this out by actually checking it out a little bit rather than outright dismissing it for no good reason.

So now we have to differentiate between good rap and bad rap? That would lead us even further into the tunnel of opinion, wouldn't it?

Not necessarily. For example, if someone listened to Creed, Nickelback and Puddle of Mudd and decided that rock sucked, what would you say? You'd say "stop listening to crappy rock". And frankly, I think that would be a pretty objective analysis.

Well, if your point was really "every base line in rap is stolen from a Zeppelin song anyway", that could be argued pretty easily. But I understand the exaggeration in your statement.

Clearly the ironical nature and comic failure of this comment was lost in translation:

Hell every base line in rap is stolen from a Zeppelin song anyway.......maybe I do like rap.

From early in this thread - by ScottieC (aka Me):

I have a problem with rap music.

My problem is, that I hate it.

I have the same problem with Country music.

And yes, I'm was exaggerating - I'm not prepared to argue the validity of the ridiculous assumption.

Yeah, I missed it all. Too busy trying to rationalize my liking of Public Enemy considering their anti-Semitism.

Sorry bud.

So you're just a run of the mill thread-****ter? Sweet. So why are you here?

Why am I on a New England Patriots message board? To discuss the merits and downfalls of rap music, obviously.

And hip-hop is about as simple and unimaginative as most guitar music. I.e., there's a wide swath of quality and inventiveness. Your ignorance of the genre informs your evaluation of it. Of course.

hip-hop...think about it. Nah, it's all about the beat, not the melody. You can't play guitar without a melody or catchy riff. I have an informed opinion...don't expect me to respect your opinion if you don't respect mine.

How's GLB going? You guys pwning Oceania?

Eh, NZBP is still in the rebuilding phase, still about a season out from the inflection point. I moved Boynkins over to Josh2Otter's team where I'm a GM/Assistant DC, and we have been kicking ass every season.

So, enough on rap, who here likes death metal?

*chirp...chirp...* yeah...I know, I'm a loser, but it's gorgeous music.

No problem - I'm trying to figure out if I should take my Autographed Donte' Stallworth framed picture off the wall from my bar downstairs.

I like Death, Arch Enemy, and old Bodom, but I'm more of a black metal kinda guy.

I would. We all make mistakes but we don't all kill someone.

I actually wore a Stallworth jersey to that game in Arizona in February 2008. 18 is a lucky number to people like me. Well, it was.

I still have the jersey but I removed the name from the back and will replace it with "Chai".

Amon Amarth?

I've listened to Death in Fire, Avenger, and March of War and I like what I've heard so far.

Need to listen to more of em.

Because the idiots who insist on derailing conversations by crapping all over rap for no real reason are almost always white. Am I racist for observing that? If so, then that's a pretty weird form of self-loathing racism, since I'm white

Yes, almost.

Sorry, nothing will change my mind. I think it was a stupid thing to say, and if any other skin color/nationality/religious belief would have been inserted instead of "white"...well, let's just say we wouldn't be discussing the musical merits of Jim Morrison, The Roots, and Cradle of Filth.

Check out Twilight of the Thunder God

I thought you were a teenage girl for a second.

Show me a teenage girl that listens to that song, and I'll show you an early stage Rosie O'Donnell with a two pack a day reds habit.
