It's kind of a big thing for us next week. With him out again, not having played since Week 2, the chance of him being anywhere close to 100% for us seems almost zero. He's a pretty darn good player and although we can win with him 100%, that's a big injury for them IMO.
I am sure you have heard it before but all coaches will tell you ...NO PLAYER IN THE NFL IS NEAR OR AT 100% IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEASON....That means even if he is at 80% Sanders is better than most players at his position who are in even better shape.

Whatever, buddy, the point is that he's been out for almost half a season, he'll be playing less plays and less effectively than he would typically be playing - if he plays at all.

Well, of course nobody is 100% at this point, but there's also a mental part of the game too. If you have missed 6 weeks of football and is just now coming back, you're going to be rusty, it may take a week or two to knock off those rust, and that doesn't matter how you feel physically. But I have to agree with you, an 80% Bob Sanders is still a lot better than most players at his position.

What the heck does this mean? Players get better by not playing? Player A becomes better than player be simply by being out a few weeks?
By this train of thought, all players are at their best the first week of training camp and go downhill ever week until the Superbowl, were all the players do their worst of the year.
The truth is that when a player is out for weeks, he must be brought back slowly, and no one expects him to be back to normal until he has played a few games.
Anyway, why do you say all coaches say this? I have never heard one say it, never mind all of them. I have heard that players are dinged up and tired by (say) week 10, but that does not mean they would play better if they had not played in weeks one thrugh nine. All coaches will tell you the exact opposite.
