For whatever reason, there is not a "dean" of football writers in Boston. Borges should be that guy but hates the Patriots and is a generally scurvy human being. Even in this era, it's treated as a second-class sport by the sportswriting establishment. That's why the others think they can get away with looking down their nose at football and pontificating about something they don't fully understand.I get Bob Ryan is Boston royalty for his Basketball writing. But that dude just sounds f'n insane when it comes to the Pats. Good god man, dude legit sounds like your crazy grandfather on christmas eve.
Someone needs to tell dude to stick to BBall, and stay away from football.
I'm not from the area so I don't follow him at all...I know I've heard his name mentioned many times in relation to the Patriots but I just heard him on the radio and is he really as big of a moron as he sounded? He sounded like he had pure hate for the Patriots. Was talking about his article to be released sunday, said well let's just say I won't be invited to the kraft or belichick anytime soon.
Has he always been like this?
And that's saying something.Yes, he is one of the biggest a-holes in the Boston Media.

Fellow Patriots fans, I present to you: Bob Ryan, Dan Shaughnessy, Hackie "Man Hands" MacMullan, Ron Borges.
Football in Boston has never really had a go to writer.
Oh yes she does! I included her for good reason. Apparently you haven't been reading her anti-Patriots venom at ESPN.com.Jackie MacMullan doesn't belong in that group. She's a great basketball writer who doesn't insult her readers when the opportunity presents itself (nor did Ryan when he was the basketball beat writer.)
In retrospect McDonough was overrated. He was an old-school "Bawston" general sports columnist who had an inner circle of cronies and wore his various biases/alliances on his sleeve. He had good sources but was very provincial and hated Bob Kraft as an "outsider."NFL Hall of Fame writer Will McDonough of the Boston Globe was among the besr ever. He had connections in the NFL like Peter Gammons does in MLB. His On Football Sunday compilation had quotes from everyone from the Commissioner on down that no one else could get. Unrivaled.
McDonough was also close with Red Auerbach and a number of baseball players and executives.

Unfortunately the national media picks up on these and these guys get interviews and calls. So they dont write it for the local people.Luckily, there isn't a writer in Boston that is respected. So there is little chance an article any of them write will be actually read with anything but disdain. That of course doesn't drive them to excel, but rather allows them to sink even further into the muck.
