ohhhh that is why we released Bam, so we could Sign Bethel.

Makes perfect sense now.

And Sullivan is still our back-up NT (as of now).

Ya never know... maybe BB will call him up and say, " have you learned your lesson yet, son?"

I never did have anything against Bethel. I would be happy to see him come back as a kick returner and nothing more but I won't hold my breath.

He was waived/injured, which means if he clears waivers he goes to the Saints' I.R.

Sure, take back Bethel back. He's fast, but sucks. Caldwell too. Brown is the only sure bet - and he's old. Jackson - who knows. Gabriel? Who knows? This new Smith dude is really a P/K guy. The Pats receiver situation is pathetic. Sorry folks, just calling it like i see it. The best receiver this pre-season was just released. Color this Pats fan perplexed.

Bethel was also on the Kickoff Unit because he could run down and tackle the KR if he got lose, and he did tackle them. No KR ever scored a TD while Bethel was out there.

However Belchick probably won't consider it because he wants Jackson to do KR.

"Who the hell is Bethel Johnson!!!"

Haha I remember hearing that one on the radio when he was drafted. He was excellent as a kick returner in 2003. After that, eh...

This is one of those "BB was right" moments. Maybe we only got Sullivan for him. Maybe Sullivan won't end up amounting to squat. But he made the team. He also appeared to be making a few strides as the preseason progressed. Bethel couldn't even make it as the likely deactivated bottom of the depth chart WR? I thought Bethel may have just needed a change of scenery. Wrong! case closed on Bethel.....

Bethel Johnson has been for the most part,a bust in the NFL.God darn.If the guy could stay healthy and develop a talent for solid hands he would be a great asset to any team.I was a bit pissed we let him go but seeing as how he couldn't make the roster in New Orleans where god knows they need help on that offense.I think I'm finally ok with having him off the team....Though....If he were able to come back .I think round 2 from him may bring some surprises.Just my two cents.

I think we should pick him up and could use him in the Kicking game. He's got to be worth more to us this year than a cast off from Buffalo.

would have thought we would have picked him up instead of the buffalo WR/KR, but in Bieoli I trust

No, if he clears waivers he will get an injury settlement from the Saints but will be a free agent. He could still play this year if anyone wants him.

bad news for him...
i hoped he was going to do fine in NO but infotunately not

for the moment the trade we made with the Saints is surely in our favour

possibilities for one Bethel eventual return to us ? i see it very very difficult...

Bethel was a loveable failure. He had some moments that gave us hope. I bet if/when Pioli picks up the phone and says "Bill, Bethel was released. You think we should give his agent a call?" Bill takes a deep breath, raises an eyebrow and says "My ulcer is just starting to heal, Scott. I'll call you back about that in November if he is still unemployed and we need a body."

Nice post. I never managed to pick apart how much was injury (he had this major operation on his stomach and, believe me, you don't come back as a top athlete from having your stomach cut open in six months) and how much was lack of application -- but BB and Pioli know, if anybody. "Lovable failure" is the way I'll think of him.
