On his track record the most probable course of action in this draft is not to take a RB. The most likely course of action for the Patriots is to sign a vet FAs big back, a former high draft pick who proved he could make the jump in class to the NFL, but obtained relatively cheaply because he has fallen on hard times, somehow.

Anyone for a resigning of Antowain Smith as a reserve for Dillon?
How about Duce Staley?
Steve Davis anyone?
Fred Taylor is my educated guess.
My dark horse candidate is Duece (he's hurt) McCalister.

Were are you getting these names from? All are under contract except Smith. Staley and Davis may be cut, but no guarentee. Why throw in Taylor or Duece?

how about ricky williams? "somewhat strange", but always superbly conditioned, ready to play. remember robert parish was a pothead too.

Stephen Davis's career is probably over. Dillon needs a studly young colt to spell him, not a hobbling mule.

I don't think the "track record" of Belichick drafting RBs is very fair because we haven't taken one really high. J.R. Redmond is the only Day 1 pick we've used.

In Belichick's first two drafts, he took three 2nd day TEs, Dave Stachelski, Jabari Holloway and Arther Love. Bust, bust and bust. The next two TEs we took were Daniel Graham and Ben Watson. If you want top talent, you've got to pick them high. We'll definately find some gems on the 2nd day but for every David Givens or Jarvis Green there's a PK Sam or David Nugent.

I'm just saying that taking a LenDale White or a Laurence Maroney with the 21st pick is a lot different from taking Antoine Womack or Cedric Cobbs.

McCalister signed a long term deal worth tons of money just recently, no?
