I can't read it as PFT doesn't load for me for some reason. But I can guess what it says.

It's ridiculous, Belichick just knows when to move on and, in Givens' case, when not to overpay. The one thing I think Belichick is quietly happy about, though, is breaking up some of the veterans who have won several SB and having a higher percentage of guys who are yet to win. Although the Patriots haven't played like satisifed fat cats, I bet Belichick wants a little more of the "I have to get a ring" mentality. And I think that he wants the players and coaches, including himself, to feel like they have to step their game up a little bit to make up for the losses. Belichick is all about challenging himself and his team and not having them be in a comfort level and this offseason will tweak that comfort level more than a little.

sweet for not reading it.

I have seen some quotes from it on another board, I just don't know if I've seen the whole thing.

could someone Please tell me why everytime I go to PFT I get the same rumor mill page (from March 20, the first item is Nall leaving Green Bay) It's like my computer is stuck on this one page.

Doesn't happen on any other web pages. God knows I need to keep up with the gossip!

Contracts and agreements revolve around very precise language and terms (or the lack thereof where things end up in front of arbitrators and courts). The ProFootballTalk rumor text substitutes the word 'wages' for the actual word in the CBA which is 'salary'. 'Wages' has no definition in the CBA and is a meaningless term. In terms of a possible Seymour extension, it is also potentially very pertinent to note that it refers to a 'renegotiation' and leaves out the action of 'extension' which are most likely NOT the same. And it prohibits a renegotiation where the 'salary' increases. Salary is a specific technical term and does not mean 'salary cap' - so this could imply that a renegotiation where 'salary' does not increase for already covered years but signing bonuses do could be done without a year's delay. I think Shefter of NFL network and even his NFL home office 'source' may not have the straight of it. Only the attorneys in the NFL office and the NFLPA office would be in a position to define what the CBA terminology actually means - and even they could very well disagree. So don't be surprised either way - whether an extension for Seymour is done before the 'year' is up or after that. Presuming that the Patriots could even come to terms with Seymour on an extension.

The CBA text was quoted in another thread, but I'll do it again here in an excerpted form:

Section 9. Renegotiations and Extensions: Provided that all Salary Cap requirements are met, Player Contracts for current and future years may be renegotiated and/or extended except as follows:
(a) The contract of a Veteran Player may not be renegotiated to increase the Salary to be paid to the player during the original terms of the contract for a period of twelve months after the player’s most recent contract renegotiation. The first renegotiation of a Veteran Player Contract, however, may take place at any time.
(b) ...
(c) ...
(d) ...
(e) ....
* No Player Contract, and no contract renegotiation or extension, may be agreed to between a Player and a Club for any term that expires prior to the last day of a League Year. All rights by a player to terminate a Player Contract must be exercised prior to the first day of any League Year to be terminated.
*Side Letter 10/21/96: Sec. 6
Note that the asterisked paragraph from the Side Letter DOES include BOTH terms 'renegotiation' and 'extension' whereas 9(a) does not.

That's just bull**** specluation. Give me ONE example where BB made a move that was for his ego and hurt the Browns or Pats. Just give me one. The fact is, BB is all about winning PERIOD. He's not out to prove **** this year, this mean has FIVE rings. He has about as much to prove as Vince Lombardi does. So much for this BB "trying to prove it's ALL about coaching" bull****.

But how do you really feel?

Sorry, but I'm sick of all this bullcrap from the media.

I'm pretty sure BB is a tad smarter then to let players he feels are productive go just to "prove" his coaching style is the reason we win.

What the hell has this man, BB, done to deserve such disrespect from the media?

They are getting more and more petty all of the time. To think that BB is not interested in having good players is absurd.

Anyone who has coached on any level will tell you that you are not going to win championships unless you have good players. It doesn't matter how great a coach is.

Players are the ones who play the games. Coaches can put them in position to win, they can teach them the proper way to play, but coaches don't play. And BB has said that repeatedly.

I think that the article is someone's attempt at satire. If it isn't, then, erm, consider me well and truly stumped (confused) as to the article.

From what I've read recently there is no news as to what the Pats and BB have planed for the draft and the rest of the off season, sooooooo the media in there own way are giving us something to discuss. ?

Remember the first rule of reporting(crap ), "We don't just report the News, We make the News".!!

Does anyone else remember this slogan? I remember it from when I lived in MA years ago. Seems alot of so called reporters and journalists are doing just that, making the so called news.

When the comic strip doesn't make me laugh I know the "Journalists & Reporters" will. KEEP the FAITH, sept. is coming !!

All he does is win and they (media idiots like Wrong Borges & Carfarto) cannot stand it. He shows them up all the time as they watch him year after year succeed in a bottom line business, without their help . Imagine that, nobody cares about or needs these guys - it drives them nutso. We get all the news we need, accurate and concise from Reiss blogs, we get the opinions we trust from Curran, Pires and others that have no such agendas. The rest of our thirst for news is quenched right here at Patsfans.com or the national ESPN & SI guys. Clayton, King, Micharel Smith all are good informative reads. Lastly, trusted radio guys (there are a few) like the Dale & Holley show and PFW's Wednesday broadcast -- (Felger started fast but recently has been most disappointing) do a credible job of filling up our drives.

These local poison pen writers are all used up, they are like old horses and should be simply put down so as to put us out of our misery in having to think about them.

So, back to the point - BB along with the entire New England Patriot organization is the finest in the NFL, certain gurdgw based media types cannot handle their continued successes.
