Belichick Coaching Tree Now A Giant Sequoia

Bob George

It seems only proper that the Department of the Interior should look for another giant sequoia and name it the Bill Belichick Tree.

The Bellichick tree of FO people has been more successful than his coaching tree. Not only has Pioli and Dimitrov had success as FO people, it looks like BB's spawn in Detroit and Tennessee are doing well in their efforts.

BB's coaching tree will eventually take root as well. The jealous mediots point to "failures" by Josh, Romeo and Charlie all the time. But Josh was just too young. Romeo got screwed in Cleveland and DID have some success there. Charlie wasn't a good recruiter and probably should have stayed in the NFL.

Now BOB is doing a good job in Houston, constantly having winning season, despite never having a decent QB. And when McDaniels and Patricia get their opportunity I expect them to do well (though I hope I never have to find out)

The truth of the matter is that there are a number of teams in the league that have "better" rosters in the league. But no one does a better job of building a TEAM, preparing that team, and getting those players to improve than the New England Patriots. And one of the reason why that is, is that Bill is not only the best teacher of players, he's been the best teacher of coaches and FO personnel

Just another guy who got a HCing job too early. His contentious parting from the Pat and partial failures in NY and Cleveland pretty much killed his coaching career in the NFL, though I think he got back to the league in SF for a while.

He actually didn't do too bad with the Jets. Farvre's injury ruined a pretty good season one year, and ultimately he couldn't overcome Jet management. And he never should have taken the Cleveland job right after. NO ONE was succeeding there at the time.

In the end he kind of ended up the tragic figure from the BB tree. Every great saga has to have one.

Two [edit: possible] opinions there:

1(yours)
2. He knew that if he had waited, more would have come out about backstabbing BB (as it did) and it would poison the other 30 from EVER hiring him. But if he could do even just ok in Clev, someone would call again.
