I love it. Its about the rules, but since we've got about two months of nothing ahead, why not make it a thread about the best of Belichick, caustic wit edition?

On the cost issue of the NFL potentially installing cameras at all boundary lines to aid instant replay: "We just spent however many millions of dollars on the replay system. I mean, there are 1,000 cameras in every stadium, so if somebody spills a beer on somebody, we have it on record, right? Maybe we could have a bake sale to raise some money for the cameras. We could do a car wash."

On why he was the only coach not present for Monday's traditional photo: "I missed it. Maybe they can photoshop me in there."

I love it. But, to play devil's advocate, maybe BB should just refrain from getting involved in anything to do with filming.

— It sounds like Bill Belichick's coaching staff had a nice lil' Wednesday planned. "We played golf," Belichick said with a grin. "Golf, bowling, a little badminton tournament, ate some watermelon, played cards. It was nice." Belichick, in case the Internet's sarcasm font fell flat, was joking. After giving the players the day off Wednesday, Belichick was asked how he was spending his time, and he ran off a laundry list of the day's events, although the coaching staff must not have had enough time to hit up Home Depot and Bed, Bath and Beyond. But of course, Belichick continued, Wednesday really was, "Totally about the Jets, other than the pony rides and canoeing." Belichick was also asked how he thought the players would respond after having so much time off, and he echoed a sentiment that has reverberated through the walls of the locker room all week. "If you can't get ready for this week, I don’t know when you can get ready to go," Belichick said. "If you like football, this is a good week to be playing."

Hey, he loves surveillance. Everybody needs a hobby.

To get Belichick on topic, one reporter asked first asked about Belichick’s anticipation of filling out that first injury report. ”I’m looking forward to that one. It’s kind of like Christmas,” Belichick said sarcastically. ”You count the days down until that injury report comes until our first one.”

a question about the fingers on Tom Brady’s throwing hand being taped. Was there any concern? ”I don’t think it’s life threatening,” Belichick said,

The Michael Felger quote is a classic.

Felger: Correct me if I'm wrong.

Belichick: I can't wait.

They keep score now? I thought if a play was sensational enough, crossing that last stripe was optional (DeSean reference).

Until Ed Hoculi reviews it.

Until Ed Hoculi reviews it.

Not sure I got the reference, but both he and Desean are likely to be crossing that plane and dancing often once they put a camera on it.

the Patriots coach took some shots at the former Redskins and Texans general manager and current CBS Sports analyst, who said on Sunday that New England quarterback Tom Brady has been playing through three broken ribs. “Who’s been wrong more than Charley Casserly since he left the Redskins? His percentage is like a meteorologist,” Belichick said. “He has no relationship to this team. I’d say less than zero. Based on what? He’s never at a practice, never at a game. … The Belichick/Casserly feud goes back a few years. In late December 2006… Casserly said the Patriots had been warned by the NFL about having a staff member, “dressed in coaching attire with a video camera who was presumably videotaping the other team’s signals. You can’t do that. They were warned.” The next day, Belichick was asked if he had heard anything from the league on the matter. He said he hadn’t, and he responded with a direct blast at Casserly. “Why don’t you go talk to Charley Casserly?” Belichick said. “He seems to have all the answers on everything, so why don’t you go ask him?”

Later in the week, a reporter asked a semi-serious question on whether or not quarterbacks get too much protection from the league. Belichick initially answered — tongue-in-cheek — that his background is in defense, “so you can probably figure out the answer to that question.” But then, he added that no one cares what he thought anyway. “I think you should talk to the guys who make the rules. There are plenty of people on that committee and they love to talk about the rules that they’ve made and how great they are and all that, honestly. The Charley Casserlys of the world, that have all the answers to everything. Talk to them. They’ve spent a lot of time studying it, a lot more than I have, and I’m sure they have all the answers.”

I loved the response many years ago about Brady vs Bledsoe, "we'll poll the 4th graders, we'll poll the janitors, we'll poll everybody".

I think Bill Belichick is the funniest coach out there. His sense of humor is exactly the kind I love.
