No problem, it's complicated! People born in Northern Ireland can opt to compete for the Republic of Ireland or Great Britain depending on their personal loyalties. Generally (not in all cases) Northern Catholics tend to be Irish nationalists and Northern Protestants tend to see themselves as British. I'm a Protestant but as I'm from the Republic, I cheer for Ireland. This may be confusing but it sure beats killing each other (we tried that but decided after 30 years to experiment with alternatives).
Two of our boxers were from Dublin (Rep of Ireland) and one was from Belfast (Northern Ireland). Unfortunately only one of them won but he has a shot at the gold on Sunday morning!
