There weren't many guys that Bill let go because he "couldn't afford" them. The most controversial players that were in line for relatively big deals were Milloy, Law, Branch, Seymour, Chandler Jones (2015 Pro Bowl), Jamie Collins coming off an All Pro season in 2015 and Joe Thuney. That's hardly anyone in 20+ years as the HC/GM. Posters have complained over the years Bill doesn't pay anyone, but it was clear why - they were replaceable.

Regarding what he mentioned about SF...they are fuked! I posted it before, but they are over the cap by $58M in 2025. That's why I don't buy SF playing hardball with Aiyuk.

Asante has said he was never going to re-sign in NE and was planning to leave after 2006 before he was Franchise Tagged. So I didn't count him. After his performance in Super Bowl 42, I wouldn't want to come back either.

No to Talib because he was injured in consecutive seasons and Revis became available. Losing Talib went unnoticed.

Forgot Thuney. I'll add him to my list.

Of course there are other factors injury/age usually being a big one. But money is typically the root of it all. Of course Asante was never going to resign because we were never giving him the money Philly did.

I don't blame them. The roster was as old as methuselah, they had just won their 3rd Super Bowl in 5 years, Brady was 42.

I don't understand how Talib fits into this equation. Talib was a free agent and a head case. He was not a long termer here. He was more like the guy who replaced him, Revis. Gilmore on the other hand was definitely a splurge, highest paid CB in football at the time.

I think they failed to replace thru the draft, which is the other key. They had no other choice.
As he said KC is doing you let guys go but draft well and replace them, that's what Pats did for many years, or hit on trades and free agents like Moss, Welker etc.
You can't send good talent out without somehow bringing in good talent to replace them.

Bill's a good speaker when he's not hiding everything from the media. Will be a great listen this year, kind of fun that he's not coaching.

Mason was a devastating run blocker. One of the best in football. When it came to pass blocking, he was a turnstile at times.

When you look at what he did in Tampa in front of Brady, it was scary. Brady had to contend with a LT and a RG that were letting people through constantly.
