Even with the backups in the game, New England managed to make it an interesting spectacle down to the wire. Rookie quarterback Matt Cassel played three quarters and led a late comeback that fell just an incomplete two-point conversion pass too short and veteran quarterback Doug Flutie converted the first drop-kick extra point in the NFL since 1941.
-----
Some conspiracy theorists surmise that the Patriots were trying to pick their opponent and actually avoided moving up to the No. 3 seed in the AFC playoffs. Was Cassel instructed to miss the two-point conversion pass (which he overthrew badly) to avoid overtime?

"Definitely not," Cassel said. "We were playing to win and the ball slipped out of my hand. I wanted to tie that thing up and go to OT."

There are believers, and not all of them wear blue, silver, red and white.

"If I was a betting man, I'd bet on them being in Detroit," said Dolphins defensive lineman Jason Taylor.

Don't you get the feeling that Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas would LOVE to play for BB and the Pats?

BB went over to the locker room to see Saban and on his way out he stopped at Jason Taylor's locker and was seen shaking hands with him. You know, JT and ZT are both class acts and good hard hitting football players that we get to watch 2 times a year. Not a stretch to imagine them here....What is thier FA status?

absolutely

they're both cerebral players, and tough guys. there are also an number of patriots who were dolphins (e.g,, Izzo, 'Truck' Traylor), and vice versa (artrell hawkins and terrell buckley). i wonder where buckley has been this season. over the past 3 years it has seemed that he suited up for both teams at least once each season. the dolphins' players must know how good it is in NE.

I'd love to have them, but will settle for watching the boys beat their butts twice a year.
