We need a backup OT for Sunday. Cannon did not practice. As has been posted Nick McDonald and Davey are possibilities.

Chris Barker can play offensive tackle if needed.

Please give us somewhere to look to see analysis of his play at OT.

The reality is that Mankins would probably play OT and Barker would move to LG. We've tried this in the past. Mankins is NOT an OT.

Right. For those who don't recall, he played a few minutes at the position and promptly got injured. Various injuries later, I'd guess he's even less of one; it's not as if we love his pass blocking these days even at OG.

Gronk .............................

I'm not sure where Mankins comes into the discussion but Barker played multiple positions at Nevada sometimes even switching on a play to play basis. You can read his draft profile online, I'm not saying he is the answer I'm just saying if we need someone in a pinch he could play the position, how well I'm not sure.

Kline can also play some tackle according to his scouting report.

05/03/2013 - Patriots sign 19 Rookie Free Agents...Kline, 23, saw action at right guard, right tackle and on special teams during his college career at Kent State. The 6-3, 310-pounder earned second-team All-MAC honors as a senior in 2012. - New England Patriots

Has McDonald been signed? I didn't hear anything as of yesterday when they were looking at him.

DT Sealver Siliga promoted to roster - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

A non-OT just got promoted from the PS to the active roster, specifically DT/NT Sealver Siliga.

I think this means that if an OT is still added this week, somebody else needs to go.

Yeah, that's what I assumed. I thought that we had filled everything, but wasn't positive.

With tomorrow acting as a holiday and then Friday being the last real practice, I'm not personally expecting any other roster moves to be made that late in the week in terms of being reasonable candidates for Sunday.

That would likely mean that Barker is our reserve OT, no?

No, again. In fact, one of Barker or Kline needs to be sent to the PS, and a vet OLman
needs to be signed, be that McDonald or somebody else. We cannot afford to have
2 rookie UDFAs as backups on the OL, though I suppose that's still better than having
2 rookie UDFAs as starters on the DL.

No he can't, not in the NFL.

It may end up coming down to that at least for this week though, as the earliest they'll be able to make another move would be Friday--which is also the last day of real practice prior to Sunday's game.

I think if a move would have been made, it would have been made either Tuesday or Wednesday. I think it may be rather unlikely that they'd wait until the last day of practice to bring in another guy off the street--although I suppose if someone could in theory do it, it'd be a guy who already knows the system like McDonald. I think the odds are low for that happening for the HOU game on Sunday though. Just my thoughts, as I certainly could be wrong.

It's really looking as if Kline and Barker will be the active backups.

Aren't Practice Squad players usually activated the day before the game? There is no reason to do so earlier.

I would be surprised if we didn't see Devey promoted to the roster later today.
Regardless of what happens, this is a huge vulnerability right now and depending in what is going on with Cannon, something that could really bite us.
