I think AVP is more in the spot light this week than Maye in my mind. I want to see if AVP play calling this week is tailored more towards Mayes natural talents. These first few weeks some of play calling is head scratching to say the least. I don't think so far he has done a good job of tweaking the offense to account for the talent or lack of being put on the field. This team is not loaded with talent that allows you to drop in any QB and will continue to produce. In fact it hasn't been able to produce much at all this season. So you have to keep monkeying with the motor to keep the car running. With this being Drakes first game as a starter I would like to see some early safe play calls to get him comfortable and then start to open up on what they can do given the 11 guys they have on the field. Call some UNC play he likes, let him get out of the pocket and try to make some magic, just do something (its what I screamed at my tv last Sunday about 5 time). This offense is getting a new motor, put your foot on the gas and lets see how it runs. If the play calling looks like it has since the season began then I think he needs to be shipped out the door.

A rusted out Yugo with a new motor is still a rusted out Yugo

I hope he has Rhamondre lined up right behind Maye on running plays and puts him to Maye's right on passing plays.
That will fool the Texans

Why do we say this team has bad talent.

Henry and hooper are probably one of the best TE tandems that are the in NFL.

Douglas is a solid release valve
Gibson is looking like one of the best half backs in the league and is an asset on screens.
Rhamondre is a pretty good bruising back.
Polk route running is crisp and is doing a good job in contested catches and separation is also pretty high.

Just because we don't have a wr1 doesn't mean we are bad all around. When you have 4-5 playmakers, more than 3 will not be doubled, so we can slice and dice the defense and after a time use Thornton or baker to get huge chunk plays.

I just feel it's a coaching thing . No team has all studs on all levels. Oline play has deteriorated all over the league.

The smarter and disciplined teams are winning more. We just need to improve that in spades.

I know it was preseason but the keeper Maye did that they dialed up on the goal line worked perfectly. I think avp is more than capable but as we know, talent is lacking here. That being said, good qb play elevates EVERYONE, not just the players, coaches too. See Brady if you needed a reminder . Maye is leaps and bounds different and better than Jacoby. Hopefully this week we can see avp start to put a cohesive offense together finally. Doesn’t have to be well oiled machine everyone in lockstep a la Brady’s teams but yea…some cohesion would be nice.

We are missing a center and a Tackle, maybe both tackles. Not even talking getting studs there, just good players.
Also missing a pass rush without Barmore, what a difference Barmore would make on this team.
With Kendrick Bourne back it improves the WR core, so I see your point in that there is more talent than people think but other than Maye, White and Gonzalez hard to see any real top NFL talent that you'd even talk about as a pro bowl level talent. I think that's low for an average NFL team so thus the "lack of talent"

Technically we have another center just signed so…They’d would be semi elite again with barmore. Honestly that injury hurt us the most I feel. I say semi elite because last few years they seemed to let better offenses beat them. This year? /shrug

Agree on the Oline. But it's not on a pandemic level . Everywhere all across NFL, Oline is a problem. So if the QB can get around 2.5 seconds that's the league average now and I believe we have an below average to average Oline which can be mitigated with some creative play calling.

Rookie OTs are not killing it and vets are starting to do well . Case in point panthers tackle .

Van noy at age of 33 is having a resurgence like no other . 6 sacks to follow up on a 9 sack season. That points to coaching and putting players in best position to succeed .

Players are to blame. But the coaches need to pull their socks. Juju had a 130 yard game. And a good portion of credit should go to Andy Reid towards that .

Polk and douglas are showing some capabilities. Allow them to unleash it. Now with Maye coming in, AVP should have no more excuses.

I agree with everything said in this thread and we all are scratching on pieces of the overall problem. I think good teams can overcome a few issues but when you look at the Patriots its clear there is just too much to overcome this year to be a good team. When I look at it from the top down there are a ton of potential issues: the Krafts too involved/not enough involved, perhaps cheap, new coaching staff that is very green and lacks experience, new offensive system, lack of talent at certain positions, injuries/arrests, preparation/disciplined play. I believe all of these things have at some point or currently are the reasons for the product we have been watching stroll onto the field each week. I feel like they haven't hit bottom yet to start moving in the right direction as I look at week 1/2 vs 3/4 but I think playing Maye may be what they need to get moving in the right direction.

Who calls the protections this week?

We lucky Houston has a mid pass rush...
