Since being chosen with the 20th overall pick of the 2008 NFL Draft, Talib has 127 tackles, 15 interceptions, and 35 passes defensed in 41 career games. He will be released once the cba is done.

While Talib may be a very talented player, his value is greatly diminished due to multiple incidents off the field. Sherrif Goodell is most likely going to suspend him for the shooting incident in Texas, and I doubt he's going to be lenient after the previous suspension for attacking a cab driver. Does a team really want to use up a roster spot and depend on a player who's biggest question is not if, but when the next dumb move will put him on the sidelines for a long period of time?

The Raiders, Jets and Bengals may not care, but teams like the Pats are unlikely to want to take a chance on Talib.

He's a thug and that's why he's getting cut. Not only is he assaulting people off the field, he attacked his own teammates. Sounds like the Bucs are sick and tired of Talib's behavior.

A player is more than what he does on the field. I think everyone agrees on that point.

Talib was considered a major character risk from the moment he was drafted -- Gruden took some heat for risking such a high pick on that kind of guy. Here's one of my own posts from before that draft:

...the deal with Talib is apparently a consistent history of misbehavior which keeps getting him into trouble but he never learns from. That's exactly the kind of guy who'll keep coaches up nights.

It's pretty pertinent this year with a lot of key defensive prospects arriving with character flags. It's the repeat offenders, especially the guys who match bad incidents with general bad attitudes, who get scratched off my board.

I dont feel bad for Tampa they knew the type of guy they were drafting. Teams should understand their risk in taking a player with so many concerns.

I dont feel bad for Tampa they knew the type of guy they were drafting. Teams should understand their risk in taking a player with so many concerns.

After Jon Gruden and Bruce Allen took over from Tony Dungy and Rich McKay, the type of player they were willing to bring in started to resemble those on teams like the Bengals; acquiring TE Jeremy Stevens is an example.

Raheem Morris and Mark Dominick have given the Bucs a cleaner image, but other than cutting Stevens it's mostly smoke and mirrors. They brought in two players that most other teams didn't want to touch (RB LaGarrette Blount and WR Mike Williams), and three of their players were arrested during the course of the season last year.
