Aqib Talib Surprisingly Took Some Shots at the Patriots Wednesday

I really hope the "bone bruise" thing was him just trying to downplay the whole Welker hit incident, since I hate the idea of him quitting on us in such an important game. If he's telling the truth however, then I'd question his drive. We can rag on Gronk or Amendola for their lack of durability, but I wouldn't question their toughness (IE: mental drive, willingness to continue to attempt playing in spite of injury) for a second... If Talib actually did quit in the AFCCG... Well let's just say that for Denver's sake, they better hope that Talib's new contract will prompt him to focus all of his energy to stepping up his game.

I'm not a huge fan of Talib but every account I heard was that he was begging to get back into the AFCCG against Denver. He ran back out of the tunnel and was seen chomping at the bit on the sidelines. To me this was a decision made by the Patriots and the medical staff.

First guy in the weight room, last guy to leave. Going to Denver is all about business and I really can't blame him. It's Revis Island time!

No real shots here so I'm not getting the article title, but I'm curious how things will go under John Fox, as opposed to the more watchful eye of BB.

Pats made out pretty sweet here. We wanted Talib so badly when the thinking was that there was no way we'd get Revis.

Talib has a host of problems. Revis' biggest problem is his propensity for holding out, and the one year contract mitigates that, so...

Agreed, and he even left us with a parting gift: a top 100 pick next year.

isn't that gone because we got Revis ?

Not necessarily. Word is that Revis was not a qualifying UFA, so the 3rd round comp pick is still in play.

isn't that gone because we got Revis ?

NOPE. Because Revis was cut he is not assigned as a Free Agent loss by the Bucs. This is why it was such a great move to get Revis. If Revis leaves next year when his 1 year deal is up and signs somewhere else, and we don't sign another player of equal or compareable value, we could potentially get another 3rd in 2016 as well.

Talib>Revis and 3rd Rd. picks in 2015-16.

talib must feel a little bad right now (big money not withstanding) because currently this exchanged appeared to be scripted as though the pats didn't want talib because they could get revis......who happened to be the guy who replaced him for the 2nd time in a row

I wonder whether Talib will risk playing through more injuries now that he has a lot of money guaranteed.

He said they miss reported injuries, that might not be an offensive shot at the Patriots but he could have reframed from saying anything so it was a shot. He passed the buck to color himself in a better light.

Don't get me wrong I could careless personally and did not find what he said to be offensive as I said but I wouldn't deduct creditability from Ian Logue who has earned extensive creditability amongst all of us for years over the title.

What Talib did was surprising to me, this organization revived his career I would have expected him to talk about it like it ****s roses.

The Patriots have their way of reporting stuff, but I haven’t had a hip problem since Tampa. The injury I had was actually a quad injury, it was reported as a hip injury, but that’s how they do things.”

The Quadriceps are a group of four muscles that sit on the anterior or front aspect of the thigh. They are the Vastus Medialis, Intermedius and Lateralis and finally the Rectus Femoris. The Rectus Femoris functions to extend the knee but also acts as a hip flexor because it crosses the hip joint.

Hey, at least Elway bought it.

Well it was not quite an offensive shot, but eventually he will take some shots, it's written all over him.

Wait for this rivalry to heat up even more this season and sh.it will get serious.

I loved talib here and I'll never forget the walk to the bench after the game winning knock down in Atlanta, and when he then crossed his leg on his lap and sat back. It was like he was thinking just another day at the office. Pure boss.

Also, I'll never forget his performance against graham. Holding him to 0
Catches says it all.

I wish he was able to play in at least one AFCCG so it wouldn't of tainted his stint here.

I wish him the best except for when he plays us.

Now with that being said, when I heard we signed revis I did dances and motions that I would never want anyone else to see...

Nice post.

I was the biggest Talib proponent and advocate on this board, even before we traded for him. Our secondary was historically bad only 18 months ago, and the Talib trade transformed it. The Talib trade allowed the defense to go to a more press-man approach, it allowed Devin McCourty to move full time to FS and stop the deep hemorrhage that was occurring, and Talib provided an attitude, toughness, and professionalism that had a trickle down effect on the rest of the secondary, if not the entire defense. Despite his prior off-field issues there was never any evidence that he was anything other than a consummate team player and professional for us, and he clearly won the admiration and liking of his teammates and coaches. He was a key player to retain, IMO.

With that in mind, I can't blame him for taking the money from Denver (who overpaid terribly), but any time you go to your team's top competitor, it takes something away. He's not the first to have done it, and he won't be the last. I don't blame him for taking that huge offer, but it's hard to feel quite the same about him. I wish he'd gone anywhere but Denver.

He's gone, and good luck for him. I personally don't wish him anything but well. Meanwhile, we've gotten even stronger with the acquisition of Darrelle Revis, who is a "transformational" talent who could take the defense to the next level. We're better off, and that's all that matters.

From what I hear his sister's boyfriend is a child molester, so what Talib did there never really bothered me.

If that's the case, you can put a pass on that one; but how about the rest:

A timeline of Aqib Talib's troubles | Tampa Bay Times

July 2008: Talib reportedly fights with fellow Bucs draft pick Cory Boyd at the rookie symposium, an event designed to help rookies make a smooth transition into the NFL.

May 2009: Talib strikes teammate Torrie Cox near the eye while wielding his helmet in an altercation with offensive tackle Donald Penn. Cox was attempting to be a peacemaker between the two when he was inadvertently hit by Talib. Cox required multiple stitches.

November 2010: After a costly penalty in a close loss to the Ravens, Talib engages in a fierce argument with a game official and has to be restrained outside the team’s locker room.

March 2011: Talib and his mother, Okolo, are charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after an altercation with the live-in boyfriend of Talib’s sister. Talib is accused of firing shots during an argument on a residential street.

October 2012: Talib is suspended for four games by the NFL for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances

Then the Bucs gave him away to us.

Denver is taking both a huge risk on the health issue and on the personal issue. The Pats played it right with him -- keeping him in a one year contract. Its possible to keep a player in line for the short time -- like Moss or Ocho Cinco (he sucked when he was here, but he towed the line). And those guys weren't accused of crimes like Talib has been. It's much more difficult to force permant change, especially after a person is paid well (see our own situation last year as an example)

Talib was amazing for us. He's phsyical, athletic, top 5 cb in the league. Saying that Revis is better. Denver got better and so we did as well

What makes me snicker is you know at least part of the Elway's justification for such a massive contract for Talib was to weaken us as well as strengthen his own team.

Well, he did that….for 24 hours. Then we got even stronger and it was far better financial decision for the future as well. So Elway is left with maybe a stronger team for next year (but not at that position relative to us because we got Revis) and a vastly weakened team in the future from a money standpoint.

It tickles me.

BB is misleading about injuries. He does that for the benefit of the team. It is not secret, nor is it a shot to acknowledge it. Until the NFL changes the rules, BB's strategy towards reporting injuries won't change.

The Patriots medical staff allowed Logan Mankins to play on a torn ACL and allowed Wes Welker to play when his head was actually still rolling around on the field, there is no way in hell they keep Talib on the bench for a bruise. Dennard can be seen on the sidelines talking to Talib animatedly and Talib just keeps shaking his head no, imo he was tryhing as hard as possible to get Talib to give it a try and Talib was solely focused upon not getting hurt. and damaging his free agent value.
