I would be all for adding this guy to our team if not for the RFA status that I believe he has. Peek had a good season on a bad 3-4 defense last year (Texans) and could excel in the Pats organization. He had 47 tackles, 6 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. I don't know if he is a RFA or not but it would take a 3rd round pick to get his guy.

However, we have three 3rd rounders so it might still be worth it. What do you think?

He'd be an interesting pickup. He probably has a higher upside than Beisel, but such a move wouldn't excite me much.

I know Rodney Bailey was a mistake. But, doesn't mean that Peek would be.But, I think I'd rather draft one of our own.

Peek is a guy a lot of us liked the year he was drafted. He had that 'tweener label that BB/Pioli often target. I'd definitely throw out a 3rd rounder for him, especially if it's ours and not Baltimore's.

If he is a good DE and an RFA, why wouldn't the Texans give him a medium tender? It's only 1.4 mil, cheap for a good DE. Then it would cost us a first to get him. If we can tender journeymen OL (Neal, Ashworth) at the medium level, surely a good DE will get one also.

Who's to say he wasn't on our radar when the Texans drafted him?

we have 2 #3's, not 3

That was then, this is now. If we go after him, what will it take to sign him $$? He's not going to sign for the rookie contract.

I stand corrected.

I think that Peek would be better than any third-round pick we could make at that position because he has already performed well at the NFL level. Peek, as a 3-4 OLB, would also fill the need for a Willie McGinest heir apparant (at least in my opinion) so we could focus on different needs in the draft such as OL and DB.

Since when do the Pats have 3 3rd rounders? Do you know of a trade that no one else does?

Also, you are assuming that Peek is only going to be tendered the minimum tender as an RFA. If the Texans were to do that, he might be worth it. But, my guess is that the Texans give Peek the middle tender offer, which would require 1st round pick compensation.

From what I hear, they don't know where to fit him in their new 4-3 defense, and I doubt they'll give him a middle tender.

I didn't realize that Kubiak had them switching to the 4-3. Peek could possibly be a WLB in that system.

The only way I would want Peek is if the Texans didn't tender him at all.
