Another Taboo Elephant! [Mac Jones playing well in SF]

He threw an INT in the endzone just like old times, but its not his fault.

The 49ers had the ball for 18:38 and only ran 44 plays the entire game. How the F does that even happen?

Purdy out again this week, Mac gets another start.

After a pretty weak performance by Mac this week, I bet Purdy's toe has some magical lotion applied and it's all better by the next game Sunday vs the Vagiants.

A reporter for SI graded Mac's performance and gave him a C+, saying:

Mac Jones' lack of mobility rendered him a checkdown machine against the Texans' great pass rush. Maybe Brock Purdy would have done better than Jones if Purdy were healthy. But Purdy is injured because he's been running for his life and getting hit. And to Jones' credit, he got sacked only twice today despite getting hit six times and facing heavy pressure almost every time he dropped back.
In addition, Jones threw some beautiful passes. His touchdown throw to George Kittle was fit perfectly between two defenders. Jones also threw two beautiful deep passes that were dropped. His interception at the end of the game with a forced deep pass while the team was trailing by 11. Which means the game already was over.
All in all, Jones is a good-not-great quarterback who needs a solid offensive line to be effective. I guess you could say that about most quarterbacks, including Purdy. Neither one is worth $265 million.

Seems about right to me.

The rest of the article is pretty frank. Saleh took a board to the face for not being able to stop a bad offense without its best receiver.

5-2 this season, not too shabby. Def keepin the 9ers in the hunt.

I'm happy for him. No ill-will.
But, I'm glad we have Maye. Mac still has a odd personality that I don't think raises the locker room as a true leader.

49ers keep hanging around. They may try for a big trade by Tuesday.

Josh protected Mac Jones from Mac. Used his strengths, one which was finding soft spots in the zone he was facing. Still a strength. Shanahan also helps Mac be serviceable.

Lets be real, he will never be a big armed mobile QB and will get you as far as his running game and defense will take him. Don’t be a dunce and play within the system.

What the Patriots did to him was awful after Josh left. Trying to throw quick out routes to the sideline. How many pick 6’s did he have to throw before coaches realized he doesn’t have the arm strength to make these types of throws? Defenses were pinning their ears back in anticipation of the offense we were running.

I was pretty critical of him but after watching some Jacksonville and 49er games I realized it wasn’t all on him and his limitations. He resembled the guy Josh McDaniels coached in his first year in the league. Not great, by any means, but not terrible either. He can win with a running game and defense as long as he plays smart, makes the occasional needed throws while not turning the ball over.

I think with the right support and a couple more years of good coaching like he's getting now, we'll have a better clue as to what his ceiling really was. Brady was able to pick up arm power and RPM on his throws with good coaching. Maybe the same can happen with Mac.

Will Purdy get traded and Mac is the new guy for SF?

I gotta say Mac has been playing well in SF.

No way. But I think Purdy is very over rated

Mac "Jones gets rid of the ball quickly and throws with superb accuracy." Not the way I remember it. There are certainly opportunities for him. Atlanta, Cleveland and Miami might be good spots for him, but there are possibilities for coaching changes on several of these teams. Minnesota and New Orleans would be good and stable opportunities. He might not do well in New York or Vegas.

Browns and Vikings top the list for me.
If stroud struggles down stretch Texans could be a good option too.

Panthers and falsons are next level options.

Anyone else is not a good form

Shanahan will get a 3rd rounder and conditional 5th rounder for Mac . Great trade return .

Anyone trading a 3rd for Mac should be fired immediately.

All the Mac aficionados might get their wish of seeing him play the Pats twice a year.

I'm not quite sure where NESN gets the notion that the Jets are rival however. The "rivals" need to break their last place tie with the Houston Oilers for AFC East division championships before they can be considered a rival to the Pats.

I would pay good money for Mac Jones to join the Jest

But I don't see SF letting him go, he's a good backup to keep

“With that in mind, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Jets were to make a strong push for Jones this offseason simply because they have no idea what they’re doing.”
