I thought the conclusion to the Cold Hard Football Facts article yesterday pretty well said it all in regards to the topic of this thread:
"For Goodell, meanwhile, sounds like he'll soon learn what the Colts, Ravens, Jets and others have long known: trying to take down Tommy is a fatal mistake."

It's so funny because Goodell could have so easily handled this behind the scenes and everything would be fine.

Irsay blabbing to Kravitz, leading to the revelation on twitter that there was an investigation, made any quick and quiet behind-the-scenes NFL resolution impossible.

Once Kravitz grabbed the headlines, Goodell had the choice of looking for truth (popular or not) or planting lies with Mort to make the story go nuclear with great popularity. He chose scorched Earth and a path of perpetual lies and deceit.

The result of Deflategate: No one is sure if Tom Brady is a liar/cheat. Everyone KNOWS Roger Goodell is a liar. Well done again, NFL.

The lie in the first sentence takes a lot away from the truth of the next two.
