Th only draw back from this is the end of the game drives. Yes it sucks to have PI on these. But defenses up by two tds with 3-5 minutes left could turn this into the last 5'minutes of a NBA basketball game.

Personally I'd like to see the rule changed where a receiver can't change direction to come back for the ball and get the interference. The Ravens use it as a design play and the CB has no idea because he is playing the player and the ball. That's really the only problem I have with the interference call. The receiver doing a 180 and somehow getting the call.

This is purely incidental and tough to call in real time. A review should go a long way to solving this issue, especially if the ball is uncatchable.



I won't disagree with this. But it needs to be a spot foul. Especially if the offense could have came down with it at that spot without any interference. Your argument is basically stating that you want to make an already subjective call even more subjective. If that happens, the NFL will turn into the NBA, which is a very apt comparison that someone made earlier in the thread.

It's already worse than the NBA, I just want them to stop awarding huge plays for touch fouls and unless there is a distinction that will continue to happen.

For those concerned that defenses would just opt for the penalty at the end of the game (or half), then if that becomes an issue then they could also reset the game clock after a DPI penalty in the last two minutes. That actually may not be a bad idea for any defensive penalty in the last two minutes - with the caveat that the official timekeeper could make that clock adjustment in a quick manner.

Or they could have a free play, in which the play clock runs, but not the game clock. The game clock will go back to normal after the free play, or basically when the play clock resets. Use this clock management during the final two minutes of each half for DPI penalties.

While I'm generally in favor of changing DPI to a spot foul, I would love to see it firstly become subject
to review. (Bill is 100% correct that everything - EVERYTHING - should be subject to review, and now
Bruce Arians seems to agree with him.) Then if Jump Ball Joe still chucks & ducks as part of the weekly
game plan, then by all means remove the spot-of-the-foul ball placement, except under well-established egregious circumstances.

On the fence with this one. On one hand it will lessen the severity of borderline defensive PI calls but on the other, defenses may exploit the rule by interfering with receivers on certain long yardage situations. Regardless, the Ravens will still be fishing for PI flags so the best bet is to just get someone repeatedly in his face.
