Once again the talk goes about shortening the preseason to 2 games and have an extended regular season - What do you want to see?

NOTE: The 4th choice should read preseason, not season - could not edit after submitting poll
(Its 4AM here and I am half awake, give me a break on the screwup )

I'd be down with shortening the preseason to 2 games. As for the 3 bye weeks. No way!

I do not have a real handle on a solution to this, but agree with the above...find the preseason games somewhat tedious...

I wouldn't mind seeing the preseason lose 1 or 2 games but there is no reason to change anything about the regular season.

I'd like to see preseason games done away with altogether and replaced by perhaps a couple controlled scrimmages with other teams as part of training camp. But it will never happen, as the owners get top dollar for the preseason games as is.

As a season ticket holder who is forced to buy two tickets at full price to watch a bunch of guys who won't even make the team play, I think they should shorten the preseason and expand the regular season by a game. Unlike in the past, players come to camp in a lot better shape and far more prepared for the season. Most teams treat the first and last playoff games as a joke with the starters barely playing a half of football in both games combined. By the fourth preseason game, the roster has been pretty much set and the starters typically only play a series. What is the use of that game other than to generate the owners more money.

The only problem I have with preseason games is the possibility of injury. And injury can happen anytime, anywhere. I wouldn't mind one less preseason game. I don't know about adding another bye though because I remember they did do that once and it felt like the season dragged and my team was always off for the week.

Wasn't there talk earlier in the year about increasing the regular season to 17 games, and having the one extra game played on neutral grounds (most likely out of country as well to promote the game globally?)

I wish the NFL would kick off on Labor Day weekend like they used to. Sure, I know it has to do with ratings and how many people are away that weekend.

Overall, I would prefer the preseason be cut to 2 games. Of course, the four game format is nice to see how players progress. So in that regard instead of shortening the number of games, maybe we can shorten the length of a game to be the equivalent of three quarters. Of course, that won't happen either. Just trying to think outside of the box.

You hit the nail on the head. This is where the owners rake in the dough.

Fans pay full price and players are not collecting their regular season salaries.

I think they should shorten the preseason and the leave the regular season at 16 games. The toll of such a long season, as well as the playoffs, is just too much and players break down.

I agree with the thread title. We should shorten the pre-season games to 3 quarters instead of 4. :rocker:

#1 - Owners get significant revenue even from pre-season games. I don't see them getting rid of the games - shortening the pre-season games might be a possibility.

#2 - Once can see that the coaching staffs don't feel their starters need 4 games of simulated game practice. However, it does seem to me there's a real benefit to getting players some better experience than they do in inter-team scrimmages.

Basically if I were the NFL I'd take my cue from the coaches and see what they suggest. It does not seem to me that its a hardship on the teams or the players given the fact that starters play relatively little in the pre-season and players on the bubble benefit from the opportunity to showcase their talents.

Genearlly I'd say leave it as is with the fans recognizing they are not going to see much starter time in the pre-season.

Bad time to ask this question. I so hungry to see some football that Aug 10th is chistled in my brain. I'll probably go down to TC but nothing like a football game.:rocker:

Still seems so far.

IMO 3 preseason games were enough. The 4th always seems like the starters sit or play sparingly and the reserves/fringe roster players play most of the game when the coaching staff already knows who is going to get cut. I know BB typically plays the starters a good chunk. If you recall, we came out flat vs Buffalo so that extra time out there meant squat.

16 regular season games is enough.

The more football the better... preseason or regular season. The offseason is way too long as it is.

I doubt the players agree with that.

The NFL should eliminate pre-season and lengthen the regular season to 42 weeks with 10 weeks of playoffs.Expand the rosters to 200 players coinciding with a 4x increase in the salary cap.

I hate the offseason.
