After reading this, I am even MORE concerned about our OL

This is a fine set of 11 OL's. TWe will have strong OL available after the PUP window is ended.

I was referring to the 11 available players for Thursday's game. I think the Pats would like to have a few more healthy bodies to split OL time and have a real 3rd string. Hopefully this will be a one-time situation and not something that lingers throughout the pre-season.

So, it not enough to be undefeated. It is not even acceptable to struggle in any of our regular season games!!!!!

Unfortunately, the last game was not the only 'aberration'. The Ravens,
Philadelphia, and Giants regular season games were wins for sure, but
according to their opponents W-L record at the time the Pats should not have
struggled against any of them. And they did, mightily! I can deal with the
any given Sunday, but the Pats were not the juggernaut we saw in the
early season. If that is chicken little so be it. I'll stand by my concerns.

When Reiss is openly criticizing an aspect of this team, you know there's a problem.

Now the important question. With this new side of him revealed, will everyone's favorite wholesome cheerleader be, like everyone else who levels the slightest slight at the Patriots, losing some support from the rest of the girls in the PatsFans.com pyramid?

Can we get can IP check to see if this matches "I'mRonBorges?" and "AlisonLovesBrady"??

I think it is a concern...and that will be more so if Light is not back by late in the preseason...For one thing, I think it really means that Neal will be PUPed...there will be NO WAY they carry two linemen that are recovering from injuries.....that would be 7 healthy and 2 not...NO..if Light is in question..Neal will be PUPed..(unless Neal is ready..but I do not think that will be the case..)
Having two starters out is the concern..(add in an O'Callaghan and..that makes it worse..) I am not that worried about a Kaczur, Mankins, Koppen, Yates, Britt line.. I think we will all find out soon if NK can play LT strong..if he can, then things will be OK. Britt has stepped it up and improved, so he will be OK..Yates?? Again, with others also filling in all will be OK. The worry is with the backups especially at tackle.

:wha: Reiss has pointed out potential trouble areas in past camps, this is nothing new for him. Perhaps the question that should be asked is based on the highlighted remarks above, are you posting from Las Vegas?

I think you are taking what I am saying and twisting it to something else. All
I am saying is that is a part of the Pats team that is not a strength right now
and is a concern. Yes they did go undefeated in the regular season but I
was responding to a poster (you?) who suggested that they had a cakewalk
though it resulting in the 16-0 record. I stated that it wasn't a cakewalk and
indeed they did struggle in a few games near the end of the season. The
team moved to add strength to the defense this off season but nothing of
note was added to the offense. Will it bite us in the arse? Time will tell.

I dont think anyone can really answer these questions until its clear what the 'ailments' are to Light, Neal and O'Callaghan. Who knows, maybe they all come back on day one or Neal makes it back by week 4 or 5

Acyiually it will be later than Neal if he is PUPed...but THAT is the best sceneario.....that Light & O'Callaghan OK...it may not be clear for awhile..but when teh FO goes after vets like that..I think it's more than just a body in camp...

For those who have been at camp, how has the OL looked? Do you have any words of encouragement?

Number 60 looked pretty good playing LT and LG with the backups.

That's all the encouragement I have. I don't even know who number 60 is.

It doesn't matter much to me how our pro-bowl OL plays behind anyone but Brady.

Holy crap, I hope the new offensive scheme doesn't involve Brady protecting the O-Line.

Remember how the colts changed their offense when Pittsburgh blitzed them out of the playoffs? I wonder how the Pats offense will change this year especially with o-line problems and the fact that every team will be blitz happy

Quick screens and deep routes with extra blockers.

I don't think the Giants pressure was from CB blitzes, it was intense DL and LB attacks. But as someone else said, good luck pulling that off half the amount of times they did without the Giants D.

I don't remember the exact number, but the Giants didn't blitz a whole lot in the playoffs; they got steady pressure with the front four. Which few NFL teams can do.

Similarly, I forget the exact number, but towards the end of the season I know Brady had like a 140ish QB rating vs. the blitz.

So really the Pats Achilles Heel is a front four that can get QB pressure. Which pretty much the Achilles of every team that plays football.

Can Ventrone & Slater play OL?

We'll be alright .. seems the OL never rushes to get it going at camp time.

PJ, don't watch the SB DVD again as you will see an entire OL that fits that
description. I keep wondering if that game is that watershed moment that
every team finds itself in and the cracks, that always appear, start to become
more serious than simply sticking a finger in them to stop the deterioration.
Or, maybe I am just so bummed after watching the SB game the other night
and trying to understand how that OL could possibly play that poorly.

How can you watch that game again??? I will never even watch a highlight of it.

#60 is Jimmy Martin

Thanks for the info though. I'll say this, the battle in the trenches will be very interesting to watch tomorrow night. Reiss's article did make me tap that panic button a little. Sorry guys. I'm still concerned about the overall depth of our OL. Hopefully, it will get better with a little more time. Thank God we have 4 more weeks before we have to play a real game.

The Pats didn't make any significant moves for an OL this offseason, in the draft or through FA, sometimes it's good to have a few injuries (not serious ones) early in camp and in pre-season because it does two things: (1.) Allows less experienced players to get reps with the 1's and 2's, which allows you to build critical depth when the starters do return and (2.) It causes the FO to re-evaluate the position(s) and look at what else is out there. Activity like this is good because we will find some players that will be able to help sometime during the season. The NFL season is a long and tough one and you can't get it through it with out quality depth. No reason to panic on 8/6, now is the time to find solutions for your problems so that they don't become issues during the reg season. Every team is challenged one way or another in pre-season and working through that is what separates the good teams from the bad ones.
