While the Patriots would have loved to make the same trade the Cowboys did with the Browns, they made a similar swap in dealing the second of their two first-round selections for the 49ers first round pick next year, which will almost assuredly be before number 28. The Patriots also received a fourth-round pick in the deal, which they then used to acquire Randy Moss the following day, a deal already discussed on our blog.

Sometimes this is pretty good reading for the fans hope some of us enjoy this.

The 49ers will have earned (for us) somewhere between the 20th and 24th pick in next years draft, bank on it...They are an up and coming team,This year maybe 9 even 10 wins is possible ..next year look out - this is the year they start to climb the mountain from the valley they have been in since Young left.

I can see Alex Smith to Vernon Davis being a lethal combo sort of like Bledsoe to Coates,Green to Gonzalez or Brees to Gates

There's an interesting line in there about Dillon and his "pride being hurt" by the lack of market out there for him, and possibly choosing to come back to NE "a few weeks" into the season.

I don't buy that frankly, and the only plausible sighting of Dillon on the field at Foxborough I can envisage is him being honoured by the Krafts at half time. Which is not to say I don't think he could do a job for us, because I think he could in limited role play situations. But I don't see it happening.

I think I'm also beginning to understand the thinking behind the piece his people gave Mike Reiss about his retirement. In this position now, where it doesn't seem like there's a slot for him anywhere, he can come out and say "I told everyone I was retiring" and keep his pride and bow out gracefully.

I don't think Dillon will return to New England, if he returns at all. Green Bay and Tennessee are much more likely options.
