Usama Young, Kent State- Dean Pees special (as Dean was his former coach). 5-11 1/8, 196. Timed 4.4 speed @ Pro Day, 43” vertical!.

“Young's vertical jump of 43 inches would have been among the best scores of any players in his position group at this year's NFL combine. His long shuttle run of 11.98 seconds would also have topped all defensive backs at the combine. Just for good measure, Young twice ran the 40-yard dash in 4.40 seconds. Certainly has all the measurables, where do you see him getting drafted. I have heard he has moved all the way up to the start of day 2 (early round 4).

I heard that as well. But my source was the "Ravenna Record Courier", certainly not one of your higher echelon sources. Lol. I would definitely start thinking of him there, Probably right after Michael Coe (who I am also a fan of). I'll try to get some game to games stats up soon.

Pos: A nice-sized cornerback with solid ball skills. Displays solid footwork in reverse, loses nothing transitioning to run with opponents and covers a good amount of area on the field. Quickly reads receivers’ eyes, then gets his head back around to locate the ball. Nicely positions himself against defenders and gets vertical to knock away the pass. Tough and willing to get involved in the action.
Neg: Not strong and struggles bringing ball handlers down on initial contact. Very quick out of his backpedal and prefers to side-shuffle. Better facing the quarterback and struggles with his back to the ball.

Kent State senior cornerback Usama Young, who ran sub-4.4 times at his pro day, has set up private visits with Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Jacksonville and the Jets. A number of teams have also done one-on-one workouts with him, including Chicago, Jacksonville, Kansas City, the Giants, Jets, New England, Philadelphia and Tampa Bay.

Scouts Inc gave him a grade of 30 vs Leon Hall's grade of 96.
But ProFW ranks him as the 6th best CB with a grade of 5.75 (very good) vs Hall's grade of 6.40 (Future Pro Bowl)

I have noticed just a little lack of consensus w/ regards to Usama from the "experts" (master of understatement that I am).

"7. I know the player whom teams will be doing the most work on in the final pre-draft hours is Kent State cornerback Usama Young. Mediocre crop of corners this year, and interest was peaked when Young ran a 4.39 40 at his pro day. "We've got grades all over the board on him,'' one AFC scout told me. "He's probably more of a zone corner guy, and you don't see him play all that well on tape; but he's the kind of a guy a good defensive coach would think he could turn into a decent starter or a solid nickel. He'll probably be a first-day pick.'' "

I was noticing NFLDraftScout.com's rankings had shifted a fair bit with previous UDFA/off-the-radar talents now rated as seventh/UDFA fellows (Will Herring for one). I expect Usama to make it into Day One also, too few CBs with the necessary tools.

Actually, Usama Young is now listed as a 3rd to 4th round pick on NFLDraftScout.com. He's shot up the charts.
