We all remember the Steelers games in 2004-05, which are referenced on here all the time as evidence the Pats will turn the tables in the postseason. However, since then I'm not sure it could have gone any worse...
The Patriots have now lost five consecutive games when looking to avenge a regular season loss in the postseason...perhaps more disturbing is that they were favored in many of the games. During this span, the Patriots have also had other teams take revenge on them, being taken out by the 2007 Giants, 2009 Ravens, 2010 Jets, and 2013 Broncos, all teams they beat during the regular season but were unable to defeat in the postseason. They have beaten weaker teams in rematches, but these were games that by all means were easy draws, 2006 Jets, 2007 Chargers, 2011 Broncos, 2012 Texans, 2013 Colts, 2014 Colts.

It is surprising to me that a coaching staff universally hailed as being the best in the league at making adjustments has looked so badly outcoached or outexecuted the second time around. I remember back in Belichick's early career, there were stats about how good the Patriots were the second time around, after they beat the Rams and Steelers after losing in the regular season. It seems there is some kind of systemic problem...I mean, we know that, since the Patriots lost to these teams, they are good teams (3 went on to win the SB, with Denver possibly the 4th.) However, the Patriots are always a SB contender as well and were often the projected winner due to their talent.
