Let me state this again, to be clear, I am not suggesting anything about the Patriots here.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that Indianapolis has the #1 pick, but decides they'd rather trade it for a "boatload of picks" than take Luck.

Here's my question: why would any team do that? What would be the point of trading away, say, two firsts and two seconds (or more) to get a QB, but then have no picks to surround that player with talent? Especially when that team is bad enough that it needs help at multiple positions?

Makes no sense except for a team that thinks they're a QB away from a Super Bowl. They'll basically be giving up four top-50 picks for a QB, meaning most teams are better off taking the 4 players.

If it would make sense if i was a team that thought my defense was good enough to win a championship but i will never get there without a QB. teams that come to mind are: Ravens, San Fran, Jags, Redskins, Jets.

Out of those teams i would say the Redskins would make the most sense. They have a very solid D and would instantly become a contender in the division with a QB like Luck. You can then try to build an offense around him with vets and late round talent. Bottom line if i was the redskins, i'd give 2 1sts and a 2nd for Aaron Rogers Potential.

Mike Ditka would make that trade in a heartbeat.

Couldn't disagree more. How'd that John Elway trade work out? You're always better off with the stud qb. In theory, a team trading up instead of just sucking has some talent already. With rookie wage scale, it gives you a lot of room to build the rest of your roster thru free agency.

Two years ago I would have traded two first and two seconds to move up for Suh.

Everybody thought that was too rich.

I would argue that if there is a player that you rate as a potential superstar in your system, you go get him.

Luck is a once in a generation QB if he stays healthy. Miami is in perfect position to go get him, or they can gamble with Barkley or Jones.

In this draft there is nobody outside of Luck that is worth multiple first round picks.
