LOL, the dynasty is over. Nice words, though. DMac is showing every bit why he has been indispensable as a team captain. But the dynasty is over as we know it. The team is cap strapped and short on young talent because of the amount of whiffs in the draft since 2014. If a new dynasty is to be born, that will have to change.

The structure and culture of winning in place is a lot bigger than Belichick or brady . If everyone continues to do their jobs.. hmmmm.. causes optimism. IMO.

Interesting how he basically says multiple times he wanted to go to a crappy team for the sake of a new challenge. I guess when you have 3 rings that makes sense. He still got his wish anyhow.

I see 2020 as more or less a loss, but if they get their drafting mojo back they'll have 2 drafts + 2021 free agency to do a fast reload for the 2021 season. The cap situation improves drastically once you're past the 2020 hole.

But that's all predicated on landing at least an above-average QB somewhere in there.

We all love the guy, but he's not bringing any championships before he retires. The Dynasty is over. What do you expect him to say though.

BB knew that keeping Jason would mean DMac could come at a discount. Or: this whole article could be DMac rationalizing taking the biggest contract that he was offered (and staying where he didn’t want to).

Regardless, BB knows that keeping high character guys like this is critical to sustain the cultural standards as the team gets a new influx.

Some people are wired that way. They like the thrill of a challenge more than just being on top. Bill Parcells tended to leave when his teams were near the top (Giants, Pats, Jets sort-of, Cowboys) and signed up with crappy teams (Pats, Jets, Cowboys who had come off 3 straight 5-11 seasons, Dolphins). DMac might be that way too.

Brady will be the player spanning all the different versions of the 2000s and 2010s but DMac (D), Slater (ST) and Edelman (O) have essentially cemented their position as faces of the 2010s teams.

do you consider the 01-04 and 14-18 pats to be two dynasties or one?

    First thought: Great letter.

Second thought: The Pats overpaid. He wanted to keep playing with Jason and probably would have signed for less.

the dynasty isn't over until BB leaves. and he's going to turn it around a lot faster than most people think. give him a year and see for yourself. the cap situation will change dramatically after this year.

One, but I can see where people who say they are two separate dynasties are coming from.

Yea see, I kinda consider em two. Which is where I was heading with my question. I think that 14-18 dynasty (and the 01-18 BB/Brady dynasty) is over too. I think we're in the 2009-type year of starting a rebuild towards (hopefully) a new dynasty in 3-4 years

ETA: Maybe dynasty is too optimistic a word to use, really what I mean is a new "era" where this old guard is out and we're basically a totally new team.
