Day 4, first Patriots practice - Reiss' Pieces - Boston.com

Day 4, first Patriots practice

FOXBOROUGH – The Patriots held their seventh overall practice of training camp this morning (9:30-11:15) and were once again in full pads. That is seven straight practices in full pads to start camp.

Receiver Randy Moss practiced in the morning for the first time in camp. Cornerback Jonathan Wilhite, defensive lineman Richard Seymour, and offensive linemen Ryan O’Callaghan and Al Johnson are a few players who have missed consecutive practices and might be tending to physical ailments.

Here are a few observations that stood out from the practice:

1) Patrick Chung practices hard. When Rodney Harrison announced his retirement, Patriots coach Bill Belichick referred to him as the best practice player he’s ever seen. Harrison practiced as if he was playing in a game. It is early, but I see a bit of the same approach with second-round draft choice Patrick Chung. He goes at it hard. At one time over the weekend, he pounded his helmet in frustration when he felt his pass coverage was off. This morning, he lassoed Wes Welker to the ground after a catch. Chung is most often working alongside veteran safety Brandon McGowan.

From the Hart: Sunday morning hose-down
Written by Andy Hart on August 2, 2009 – 12:07 pm -

The Patriots just concluded Sunday morning’s workout, a relatively crisp affair that took part under cloudy skies in cooler temps. The full-pads action had a lot of red area work for both sides of the ball.

It also included – after stretching and prior to the start of practice – the usual rookie wet-down treatment for rookies on the far corner of the field. The area was wet down with a hose prior to practice. Then Tom Brady hosed down the various rookies as they dove in the prepared muddy area in the turf. Wes Welker also helped throw water at the wet-behind-the-ears rookies who ended up wet and muddy all over. The most interesting participant was first-year Patriots special teams coach Scott O’Brien, who likely earned some increased love and respect from his players by diving all-out into the muck and getting his hose down from the former NFL MVP.

Chris Baker notably crushed Pierre Woods on one rep.
As it should be, Spartan.

You betcha. Our TE's are really good. Baker is going to become a lot of people's favorites with his blocking and catching abilities.

My reference was with regards to Woods getting crushed by a TE....any TE. But I don't wanna steal your thunder. GO STATE!

Everybody is going to get lit up in training camp, but Woods getting lit up doesn't surprise me.
