Bill Belichick’s team just got off the field following the sixth practice of training camp 2009, the second full-pads workout of the day. The practice took place under hot, sunny, humid conditions. As such it looked like the heat and hard work might be starting to catch up to the team as the practice was the first somewhat sluggish session of the first three days of action. The workout concluded with the veteran players and starters getting dismissed early while some of the younger, unproven players got some “opportunity reps” on both sides of the ball with some team work.
–Those not seen on the field for the afternoon workout included Tom Malone (released), Joey Galloway, Jonathan Wilhite, Tedy Bruschi, Al Johnson, Stephen Neal, Ryan O’Callaghan, Matt Light, Benjamin Watson, Myron Pryor and Richard Seymour. Also absent were unsigned injured rookie Tyrone McKenzie, NFIer Brandon Tate and PUPers Rich Ohrnberger, Mark LeVoir, Darryl Richard, Ty Warren and Shawn Crable.

Randy Moss and Jarvis Green, who missed this morning's session, were back on the field this afternoon, but Joey Galloway, who did practice this morning, wasn't present.
The list of absentees: Richard Seymour, Matt Light, Benjamin Watson, Tedy Bruschi, Jonathan Wilhite, Galloway, Stephen Neal, Ryan O'Callaghan, Darryl Richard, Myron Pryor, Al Johnson and Tom Malone (waived).
* During early drills, when several receivers/running backs run routes and three or four of the quarterbacks throw to them, Randy Moss thrilled the crowd, having two balls thrown at him in succession and catching one in each hand.
* The JUGS machine was again used on kickoffs to save Stephen Gostkowski's leg. The Patriots do not have another kicker in camp to challenge the Pro Bowler.
* Julian Edelman once again struggled on returns. This time, a kickoff went off his facemask and bounced into the arms of one of the players on kick coverage.

FOXBOROUGH – The Patriots held their sixth overall practice of training camp this afternoon (3:45-5:15) and were once again in full pads.
Receiver Randy Moss continued his pattern of resting for the morning practice and participating in the afternoon session. He delighted the crowd by staying late and signing autographs. The Patriots reported that more than 10,000 fans were in attendance today over both sessions:
Here are a few observations that stood out from the practice:
1) Jerod Mayo is on another level. One of the highlights of practice was the one-on-one running backs-on-linebackers drill in pass protection. Inside linebackers Jerod Mayo, Gary Guyton and Paris Lenon surged up the middle as running backs Fred Taylor, Kevin Faulk, Laurence Maroney, Sammy Morris and BenJarvus Green-Ellis were the blockers. At one point, Mayo ran over Green-Ellis. He later showed his speed by racing around one of the backs. Earlier today, he lowered his shoulder pad and knocked Morris to the turf. He looks like one of the most impressive defenders on the field.
2) Brady and Moss – one on one near the end zone. At one point in practice, when the Patriots were working on the kickoff return drill, quarterback Tom Brady and receiver Randy Moss went to the other field and worked one-on-one from inside the 10-yard line. Moss is a dangerous red-zone weapon, and he ran routes into the end zone working to get on the same page as Brady.

For the first time during a very strenuous start to training camp, the Patriots seemed to show some effects of the heavy workload and the oppressive heat.

Who’s hot:
Eric Alexander – The linebacker has showed his versatility by playing inside and out during his career and he made some plays in pass coverage on Saturday. He came up with a terrific interception during a one-on-one drill against Chris Baker, stepping in front of the tight end and making a difficult catch look easy. He also forced a fumble (again against Baker) after allowing a short completion.
Who’s not:
Fred Taylor – The veteran back has looked good thus far in camp, catching some passes and showing a nice burst through the holes in 9-on-7 drills, but pass protection doesn’t appear to be a strength. He was bull rushed by Jerod Mayo in a one-on-one drill, and then got caught lunging in his next couple of attempts, winding up off balance and out of position.
Play of the day:
It was just a meaningless drill but Randy Moss never ceases to amaze his audience. The quarterbacks and receivers do a daily drill where five players go out on patterns and each has a pass tossed in his direction. On this rep, two quarterbacks threw to Moss, but that was no problem as caught the first conventionally, put the ball under his left arm and then reached up with his right hand to snag the other.
